Site24x7The new Site24×7.com Web site monitoring service is a fantastic free service which offers some fairly advanced features for monitoring and alerting owners to Web site issues.

After signing up for the service, I added and configured 5 different domains and asked the service to test each domain every 5 minutes. If the site does not respond, or if there is too much delay (latency) I also receive a notice.

The service can log into password protected sites, it can look for specific words on a page, and can even check a form to make sure it is responding. If your Web host offers a 100% uptime guarantee this service will definitely catch them if they aren’t living up to it.

If you rely on your Web site for revenue and don’t have something like this already alerting you when the site isn’t working, well this sucker can save you a bunch of money by letting you know when you’re down.

After trying the service for about a week, it is definitely keeping an eye on things. The only question I have is whether or not the service is accurate. I’ve gotten several notifications of high latency response times, but wonder if it’s really my server, or just the Site24×7 access to it.
