witness.jpgA new site dreamt up by the rock star Peter Gabriel called Witness.org focuses on the noble, yet disturbing, concept of documenting human rights violations.

The site currently catalogs one of the largest collections of human rights violations in the world, and has gathered the data by training hundreds of people in over 80 countries to use video recording technology.

Here is an example of one of the videos which is a compilation of alleged violations which have occurred during the “War on Terror”.

Again, the Web is being used as a useful tool for sharing information which would not otherwise have an appropriate outlet. Television stations are not going to show these videos because they aren’t money makers. Whether or not the videos are real, accurate, or false needs to be considered, but nonetheless I think it’s a useful tool for the world.
