A Compendium of 150 Monty Python Sketches

by John P.

Monty Python Spanish InquisitionMy wife requested that I post a particular Monty Python skit on the site. Well, posting just one Python video is right out!

No, here at One Man’s Institute for the Exceptional Documentation of Silly Time Wasting Videos we have a rule that one shall post no fewer than 150 videos – and the number of videos posted shall be 150.

Therefore, being that my wife is an HR manager and has to interview tons and tons of mackerels, and furthermore since she gets a kick out of Monty Python’s classic Silly Job Interview… RIGHT! On with it then!

(In fact, as I understand it she conducts all of her own interviews in this manner. Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink. Say no more.)

Additionally, in the spirit of being Halibut, I’ve spent a truly silly amount of time sifting through applicants, while wearing pantys and a bra. No I didn’t! Yes – you did! Right. On with it!

We Brits may not be good at much but comedy is something we are proud of.

Useless fact number 174 – John Cleese was an accountant before he became famous.

as much as i agree that enough is enough, the very name of this site is justification for the inclusion of as many sketches as our associates and fellow players choose to locate. besides some of then actually like them. sic.

Trying to find out about one sketch in particular, yet I’m not even sure if it’s from Monty Python to begin with! My husband is trying to find a sketch that has to do with a ‘walker brigade’ (I think it’s a spoof on some old war films or documentaries….not all that sure, though).

Any help would be appreciated!

It’s not a Python sketch. Bill Murray did a pseudo war documentary sketch on SNL about the Walker Brigade as Richard Burton. It was a story about an idiotic WWII plan to train geezers with walkers and have them march toward Nazi lines in the hope that the Nazis’ spirit of fair play would prevail over their training to machine gun the enemy. The whole thing worked out badly for the Walker Brigade. No survivors. No one ever tried it again.

I’m looking for the sketch about the mountain climbing expedition up the street in a town. Anyone know which one this is?

Could anyone tell me the name of the sketch with the lines:

” Who can say they’ve never set fire to some great public building? I know I have.”

This is driving me crazy(er)

Thanks

The Walker Brigade was a send-up of WWI documentaries. In this instance, the subject was a brigade of soldiers who fought their way through the trenches, crawling on their bellies beneath machine gun fire, lobbing grenades and such while laboriously taking with them their unwieldy aluminum “walkers” (like those typically found in nursing homes, etc.) The narrative was quite somber and grave. The gag was quick and silly, but it was, at first glance anyway, a very funny bit

I have been looking to at least verify the “The Walker Brigade” did exist. Thanks for letting me know I did not imagine it. I cannot find it in any copy of MP that I can rent or purchase. I’m sure it will be a let down after 25 years of searching but I hope to see it once more before I die. Thanks for any help.

I remember a scetch or LP recording at least which invloved a King, Princess and a Prince Walter who was to marry the Princess (he was in the Book of Princes and in the Forward.) The King played his Hammond organ and sang a funny song like this: “Yar-de-a-bugedy-rum-fink-atoo-ni-ni-ni-yahoooo!”
What is the name of this bit? Is it here on the site and if not what is the title of the LP it is on? Please, I want my son to here it. Also, I’m looking for one where Palin (?) intoduces us to “The Wonderful World of Sound!” where he plays sounds of an Ant and Wood Louse magnified many times amonst others. What is that one called?

I believe both of those are on “Monty Python’s Previous Record.” Not too sure about the 1st one, but the 2nd one definitely is!

Thanks for posting all the wonderful python skits. Has anyone seen the skit “How To Be An Idiot”? One of Cleese’s finest moments. Also I don’t think I’ve seen the skit of the hairdressers climbing Mt. Everest.

I’ve got it in my head for some reason that it was in one of the Monty Python sketches that the imortal words “Wrap me up in Sellotape and bite me bum I like it”, were said. I told someone recently it was from a Python Sketch, then it started me thinking. You’ll probably know better than me. Any ideas?

What a brilliant collection. We’re about to interview the great Mr Cleese on a Sydney radio station and I was sifting around doing some research and came across your site. I laughed so hard! Thank you for compiling the segments. Our interview will air on http://www.2gb.com at around 5.30pm Australian EST if anybody wants to listen in on the net. All the best. Bec

Does anyone remember an animated short of a postman delivering a christmas card to a man seated in a chair and while the man was looking at this beautiful card it began to evolve into war? Then at the end a knock came at his door and the postman grabbed the card and said wrong address and took the card from him? I am dying to see this one again and if anyone could direct me I would appreciate it.

21 Searching Banana December 30, 2008 at 10:34 pm

I’m looking for a Monty python video in which there is a very tall man, and you can just see his torso. He is standing next to a regular sized man and the tall man says to the normal sized man, “you have something on your face.” I think they are eating bananas. And then the regular sized man says the same thing to the tall man and a large piece of banana falls from his face.

Do you know which sketch this is? THANK YOU!!

The sketch was called “World at War, The Walker Brigade”. You are correct that it was NOT a Monty Python sketch, but was done on Saturday Night Live, during the February 10, 1979 show, Cicely Tyson being the host. I remember watching that one and rolling in the floor as the paratroopers floated down with their walkers, then were such easy targets and were mowed down. The Walker Brigade idea was, indeed, quite a failure. I wish that I could find it on YouTube.

I’m trying to find a Python sketch which involves a very boring man talking about road directions. I think it is Palin that plays the part and just keeps going on and on about things like taking the A26 as far as a certain roundabout then avoiding the bypass.

Hi everyone,
it seems there’s a huge bunch of python-experts in here … maybe you can help me:
I’m looking for a sketch, i’m pretty sure it actually IS a python sketch. The sketch shows a general or some other kind of high ranked military guy, who just got a bad message or something… he then begins jabbering about the next steps and gets more and more excited.. talking at some point about a “holy threefold total mobilization” land, water, air and so on…
that’s pretty much all i can recall. i have seen all the flying circus episodes but haven’t found it yet, so i started to go through all the movies, life of brian, meaning of life, grail, and now for something completely different, how not to be seen, the hollywood bowl thing and even jabberwocky..still … nothing…
does anyone have an idea in which production this sketch was shown in, or its name or script or anything ?
thanks in advance

I am trying to identify the sketch name and episode number of the Flying Circus sketch that shows men in suits walking along normally until they see a pretty lady and then they take off running after her. This happens several times. I think one of the guys was an announcer asking no one in particular what made them do that. I think this sketch was at the beginning of the episode. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
