Massive Storm Drain Eruption in Middle of Street

by John P.

Water EruptionThis is just so strange that it’s worth seeing. I’m not sure where it occurred, but apparently in the middle of the night a manhole erupts gushing millions of gallons of water onto the highway.

If you look closely you’ll see that the cover is about the size of a small car, and it looks like a truck runs into it and becomes disabled in the middle of the massive geyser blasting from the street.

But even better, keep watching and you’ll see some guy walking around inspecting things. And the storm drain errupts again and just drenches the guy! It’s hilarious! But he’s seriously lucky he didn’t get dragged back into the drain.

Wow! That was totally worth the view — nice find. Standing close to natural geysers is scary even when they’re small, this eruption is like some of the largest geysers in Iceland — so I can’t imagine how scary it is to be driving at 90kmph almost directly into one. Amazing that it appear to have only resulted in one car crash.

It also seems the owner of the truck gets caught in the second eruption.

The video is amazing but what’s more amazing to me is that there is a video of it. I just wonder how it managed to get on video!?

Hrafn- yeah, I can’t believe there was only one wreck. I wonder if there were wrecks before or after the camera’s view due to hydroplaning…

Elaine- I hadn’t thought about that. It kind of looks like some sort of permanent camera doesn’t it? Perhaps its a traffic cam?

If that’s a man hole … that’s not water. That driver probably got chunks all over …

Given the date format mm/dd/yy and the fact the day is in English I’d have to say this was a traffic camera somewhere in the United States. Also I can only imagine the southern states needing storm drains of that size given the hurrican season they have.

Fantastic video too…

I would guess that it’s somewhere near the coast and the two gushes are caused by some sort of huge wave surging in. And as they are driving on the right hand side of the road it’s definitely not Britain.

This occured in Minneapolis, Minnesota on the interstate. You can see real videos of it here: http://www.weatherpaparazzi.com/flooding.asp

mis, if you saw water shooting 30 feet in the air out of the ground wouldn’t you try to avoid it?

I saw this before, it said that it happened because some radio DJ called out to thousands of people to flush their toilets at the same time. I don’t know if it’s true, but it sure as hell would be awesome if it was.

It happened on Glenmore Trail During a massive rainstorm we had. It happened in Calgary, Alberta , Canada.

Heheh awesome maybe, but a lawsuit no doubt followed :) It’s entertaining to watch but people really could have gotten hurt in something like that. Still, the sensationalist in me will admit: I’m glad it was caught on video.

That is one of the wildest things I have seen. What exactly causes that kind of pressure to build in a sewer drain like that? It must have had some immense force behind it because it launched that cover like it was paper. Water can be a deadly thing! Did anyone ever read what caused the eruption? I would love to know what that was.
