Jim,

Alexa uses an algorithm which they believe takes into considering the number of users they have compared to the number of users on the net, and makes general assumptions that their user base is a representative sample. They then publish the results.

There is no external measure of a site's popularity that is absolutely correct, so thats why its good to take a look at several different tools. If you see the same thing across multiple sites then you can get a feel for whats going on.

It so happens that on the back end I've seen exponential growth in traffic to the site since it's inception that has actually surprised me. It has certainly exceeded my expectations, but I'm glad that so many people enjoy the content I put up - though I know that not everything appeals to everyone.

Congratulation, I always forget about Technorati. I am signed up but never check it. If Alexa only checks site which uses go to with the tool bar installed, how then is this anywhere close to accurate to really site hits. Seems like a broken system to me.

Well, your blog is very interesting and this is why. To bring domain to google page rank = 8 is quite amazing. My company site has 200k+back links and it is 12 years old domain, it became pr=8 before few months.

Alexa ranking depends whether your users have the toolbar installed on their browser or not. If a user visits your site without having Alexa tool bar installed, Alexa does not know about him. I do not have alexa toolbar, and I visited your site 50+ times in the last 4 days and I am not counted. You may have much higher than what Alexa says.

Good luck!
