Why don’t American police use a breathalyzer? It takes two minutes. It gives much more accurate results.
Why spend 15 minutes laying tape, watching a drunk walk and stumble across the floor and touch his nose? I know it’s funny to watch, but the police arn’t there to get a quick laugh!
Actually, they do use the breathalyzer, but normally I think they do one of the old fashioned tests first. Mind you, I don’t have any experience with this.
I would suspect that they don’t jump right to the breathalyzer because in the US the police would need “reasonable doubt” to perform one, and on top of that you can always refuse to take it!
Now, that means a trip right to jail… but it still might be better than giving them the evidence they need to convict you down the road.
I wonder why he used the tape instead of the already-drawn parking spot lines? The painted lines are wider, but you can still test people’s ability to walk a straight line with them…
I’m guessing that the use of the roll of tape is itsself part of the sobriety test. I’ll bet people have a hard time bending down at the knees and putting the tape down all the time…

True, as was rather obviously shown here
