This is a little skit which was apparently first featured on the Taproot Blog. I have no idea who produced it or why, but it’s quite a funny parody of a politician explaining an oil spill.
I’m guessing it is from an Australian comedy TV show, so if one of you knows a little more detail about where this came from it would be great.
The Umbilical Brothers Comedy ActThe Umbilical Brothers, Dave and Shane, are an Australian comedy team who specialize in sound effects. Quite simply, they are...
the bald guy is John Clarke. He & the other bloke, whose name i don’t know, used to do these little political parodies every Friday night on the end of the ABC’s the 7.30 Report. you should be able to find a heap of his stuff around I would imagine.
One of them (John Clarke) is actually a New Zealander, but anyway. As an Australian, I can tell you that you haven’t missed anything by not knowing any Australian comedians before now. Since the introduction of TV here in the ’50’s, our comedians have done their best to emulate/imitate their American or British counterparts. So, there’s not a whole lot of difference.
Check out the link from snopes.com about this issue. It is in fact 2 Australian comedians (John Clarke and Brian Dawe) discussing this topic and not a news reader interviewing a real Australian Senator going by the name of Senator Collins. The link is http://www.snopes.com/photos/politics/frontfell.asp. Surely you don’t think us aussies are THIS stupid. This is a comedy interview, NOT a real one.
These 2 guys are famous comedians for the ABC here in Australia, and are on every Friday night. They pretend to be politicians and do gags such as this every week. They are a very funny pair.
You’ll notice they look a BIT older than the 17-year-old “oilspill” clip from 1991 which for some reason is getting so much belated airplay. There are hundreds more, some better than the oilspill “interview”!

That is SO funny!!! “Well, the front fell off…” “Well, cardboard’s out…” Hahahaha!
The “journalist” is Bryan Dawe – the other half of what is a terrific satirical team.
The two of them did have a spot on Channel 9’s A Current Affair but ended up at the ABC (Aust. Govt. owned TV and radio broadcaster) for some reason.
This was a little different. I must say, I’ve never really heard an Australian comedian before.

Actually, they’re on every THURSDAY night, and you can see ALL their work here: http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/clarkedawe.htm.

Also recommended, more brilliant comedy from our tiny population of only 20 million – the Chaser boys at http://www.abc.net.au/tv/chaser/war/ and political satire from The Hollowmen at http://www.abc.net.au/tv/hollowmen/#/watch
