I bought a video camera from CC about a year or so ago. It was a "floor model" that they wanted to get rid of and was marked down a bit so I decided to take the risk. The salesman looked at it and confirmed that it was "probably" only a floor model. I take it home to find months worth of video on the hard drive ranging from birthdays to what looked like a ROAD TRIP. They were interesting and funny to watch, nonetheless.

But the point is that what ACTUALLY happened was that it had been a returned item for whatever reason, and CC just decided to use it as a floor model, probably to save some money.

It might be important to note though, that the camera still works fine, but it's the idea of being deceived that makes me a little weary about some stores like CC.

Doesn't matter anyways cuz CC is closing down./=

I'm a current Circuit City employee and i did hear from associates that worked here when it was commisioned and they said alot of things that this guy mentioned. I've worked here for over a year in every department in the store and i've not witnessed these types of sales tactics YET!!!! If you really wanna know what the manufactor covers don't buy a warranty and try to get things fixed or replaced like batteries and chargers. While it is true that you can find a laptop battery and/or chargers ranging from $70-$130 they are not covered by the manufactors anymore under any circumstances. He had to have here before they ended commision and as we all know commisioned sales people live off what they sale. You can get that type of service from any retailer that has commisioned sales people. I always tell people where they can read up on important information regarding manufactor warranties and what they cover. I also tell our guests to go shop other retailers and compare my sales tactics to my competition. I usually win that battle in my area. Just my thoughts on the old Circuit City salesman versus the new.

One thing that people fail to realize when they read this blog or "confession" is each Circuit City is seperately owned, a franchise. Yes, Corporate office is in charge, but Corporate is too large and busy to be aware of everything going on in the stores.

Meaning... each owner handles his property differently. I have worked at Circuit City some time now and few of these statements ring true for our company, except accidental coverage is 1 month longer then the basic coverage. That's for your benefit! :) This helps too, when checking CSIS we can instantly tell a customer what problems are covered and which one's are not.

But then, that could also explain why we're rated number 3 out of all 700+ companies. :D, Yay for Rocky Mount Circuit City!!

Also... who's to say he really worked at Circuit City? You never know, he could be a competitor.

And lastly. For labor laws, there are no hourly restrictions after you turn 16. Work permits are not even needed after you turn 16. Maybe the some of these "Confessions" should have been researched first. :)

Have a great day!

What a comment from Joseph, looks like the company forced someone to write a few lines. hehe. Even half is untrue (like Joseph claims), there are still 13.5 true points, and that alone is shocking enough

This is total trash. I work at circuit city and we all go out of our way to help the most belligerent of customers. Half the things this dude mentions are completely untrue. I've always used my real name on the phone the price guarantee still saves u money and protection plans are a good call. Diagnostic alone at any tv repair shop is 200 dollars. We do the utmost to ensure good customer service short of giving our products away.

I worked at an electronics retailer for 8 years so these are no big surprise to me. The amount of profit they make on extended warranties/service plans is amazing. They push them like crazy. I've always been leery of any kind of extra like that since many of them have very restrictive clauses in the contract.

As for boxing up items and pretending that they are defective - this is one of the reasons why manufacturers have gotten very stingy with return policies. In the end all it does is punish the consumer since getting warranty claims filled becomes very difficult. Many of the supposedly new in the box items really are not. You'd be surprised at how talented some people are at boxing up used items and making them look like new. As far as I'm concerned, if you are someone who frequently returns things then you either A) can't make good decisions about purchases or B) you are borrowing the items. In the end the consumer gets punished anyway with more restrictive return policies and higher prices.

Years ago, when they first came to Dallas, before the stores were even open, they held a big job fair at a hotel. I went and applied and never heard back from them. But pretty much ever since they opened, I've heard bad press after bad press - which has caused me to gloat - ever so slightly. Awfully petty of me, don't you think? ;)

I read this too. Very interesting. It seems like there have been a few "confessions" from previous sales associates popping up this past year. I always wonder what type of monetary compensation is awarded to the bold.
