The PayPal Fee Calculator

This is just a quick tip… If you ever find that you need to transfer money to someone and wonder what it would cost to do it via PayPal then you definitely need to check out the PayPal Fee Calculator.

Two very useful things I can come up with for this site are:

  1. You want to send money to a foreign country, but you aren’t sure what all of the fees are going to be.
  2. You want to sell something on EBay and would like to set pricing based on how much you will receive after PayPal fees.

Enjoy!

Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek from Jeopardy!

Will Ferrell SNL JeopardyThis post is dedicated to Jimbeau. Ahh Tribeck but I think you do!

So, someone put together a pretty complete compilation of Saturday Night Live skits that feature Will Ferrell as Alex Trebek and Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery. They actually took the time to cut just the Sean Connery parts and splice them all together.

This is one of my favorite SNL series of all time, so I hope you enjoy.

My Favorite Comedians - Dat Phan

Dat PhanDat Phan is hilarious. He was the winner of the Last Comic Standing show, and he’s made appearances on all the late night talk shows as well as touring around the country.

He also had his own special on Comedy Central which I’ve watched about 5 times. He kills me every time. Recently I came across it on YouTube, so I thought I’d share it. Enjoy!

One Man’s Blog 1 Year Anniversary!

John PWow, has it been a year already?!? My inaugural post came on July 23, 2006. I didn’t really have a plan about how this site was going to develop, but the growth has certainly exceeded my expectations.

By my best estimates over a million people have stopped by in the past year, and every month the number of visitors exceeds the previous month. I am so very grateful for the attention and inspiration of my regular readers and I hope that I can continue to educate, enlighten and entertain you in the year to come.

Unicycle Bastards Invade Portland

Unicycle Bastards Invade PortlandThanks again to Jimbeau for supplying us all with this crazy unicycle video of one of his friends who is basically a member of a unicycle gang called the Unicycle Bastards.

Some filmmakers hung around with them for a couple of days and made a short video of their crazy death-defying actions, but for some reason never shared it, so here it is. A Web exclusive!

WordCamp 2007 Videos

Welcome to all my brethren that are attending the WordCamp conference in San Francisco. Yes, I’m the guy that’s doing all of the filming today and tomorrow. A few folks have already asked me when the videos will be available so I figured I’d start this thread to keep everyone updated.

There is a considerable amount of editing and converting which has to be done to share the 15 or so speakers, so please be patient with me. I’ll begin the work when I get back home to Dallas on Tuesday, and I’m hoping to begin posting videos by the end of the week.

I thought that might get your attention. But it’s true. Today Bush is going to undergo a colonoscopy and before he goes under he’ll be signing over Presidential power to Cheney until after the operation.

The procedure will be supervised by Dr. Richard Tubb, the president’s doctor. It will be done by a team from the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, Md. Because the president will be under the effects of anesthesia, Bush has elected to implement Section 3 of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, making Cheney acting president until Bush indicates he is prepared to reassume his authority.

During Saturday’s transfer of power, the vice president will be at his home on the Chesapeake Bay in St. Michaels, Md., about 45 miles east of Washington, Snow said.

The 2002 transfer was only the second time that the Constitution’s presidential disability clause was invoked. President Reagan was the first to invoke the Constitution’s 25th Amendment since its adoption in 1967 as a means of dealing with presidential disability and succession.

Travel Tip: Faster Elite Status with Hertz

Hertz Presidents CircleIf you happen to be a Hertz #1 Club Gold member there are elite status levels available which are (ridiculously) achieved by number of actual rentals, as opposed to days of rentals. This is one of the worst rental rewards policies in the entire travel industry because it will reward some travelers who are far less profitable for Hertz than others.

For example, if you rent a car 10 times on overnight trips for a total of 10 rental days you will achieve “5 Star” status, but if you rent a car 7 times for 4 days each for a total of 28 rental days you don’t get jack.

Well, there is a way around this.

AAdvantageEveryone is aware of American Airlines and most other carriers elite status levels. These are the people who are invited to board the planes first, get free upgrades, and even get the best seats in the first few rows of the economy seating section (you might not have known that).

Normally in order to achieve elite status you would need to fly at least 25,000 qualifying miles in order to achieve the lowest level of Gold, or 50,000 to earn Platinum. However it is actually possible to get your upgrades with only 5,000 or 10,000 miles respectively.

Balls of Steel’s New Game ‘Urban Sprinting’

Urban SprintingThere are a few curse words in this one, but it’s exceedingly amusing anyway! This clip comes from a UK TV show called Balls of Steel.

There is a guy in the UK who’s invented his own game called “Urban Sprinting”. Basically the deal is that he’s got a device that I’m assuming he can turn on which will set off the alarms at retail stores that are designed to catch shoplifters.

Do you see where I’m going with this yet? Yep, he doesn’t steal anything, but he sets off the alarms and then runs to get the security guards to chase him! As far as he’s concerned the game doesn’t end until he’s able to get to a hamburger joint and order a burger.

Review: VistaPrint.com Business Cards

One Man's Blog Business CardsA couple of weeks ago I decided to order some business cards that I could hand out instead of having to write down my domain name on pieces of paper for people when my blog comes up in conversation. So, I went over to VistaPrint.com and gave their process a whirl.

It took me about 45 minutes to search through all of their different designs until I had finally decided on and customized my new cards. By the time I was done I ordered two sided, full color, glossy cards on the heaviest weight paper. Yeah, I’m a sucker for upgrades.

Zen Vision W New Hard DriveSix months ago I published a guide to the complete disassembly of the Creative Zen Vision W personal media player. At the end of that post I theorized as to how one could upgrade the hard drive when larger ones came available.

Well now, thanks to the generosity of Aaron Vronko and RapidRepair.com for supplying a 100GB drive; and Dan, one of my loyal readers, for playing guinea pig using my previous post to repair his Zen, I now have the largest drive in any Zen W in the world - and the theory is now a reality!

Here is how it was done.
