Batteries are like crack. You just can’t live without them! However, some very industrious (and possibly crazy) folks have destroyed a few batteries to bring us tips on how to save a ton of cash by hacking into, and re-purposing the guts of, 6 and 9 volt batteries.
For example, inside one of those giant 6 volt lantern batteries actually reside 32 standard AA batteries! And here is how you get them out:
And if you crack open a 9 volt battery, you’ll find 6 AAAA batteries inside. You can actually fit these where a AAA battery goes.

Hah, absolutely awesome, I wonder what the price differential is between the two.. Costco has big battery packs for 11-12 dollars, but this may be a much cheaper way.
Battery hacking… and I thought I heard it all…
You must spend a lot of time surfing around looking for stuff like this hehehe
Kim:)
nice post, I’m a bit of a wuse when it comes to anything electric tho..lol
So it looks like if my remote dies I can pull that 9V battery out of my smoke detector and go about channel surfing without having to run out to the store? Sweet!
Good stuff the price of one standard AA batteries package becomes $0.7
So $4.3 les than thenregular price.
The question is is this batteries of the same quality.
i just did this with a duracell 6v battery and all i got were 4 D cells. not that great a deal at all!
I can’t seem to find the link now but I could have sworn I also saw a video where you can then open the AA batteries and get out even smaller batteries! Anyone know what I’m talking about or did I hallucinate that? :D
In our Diveshop we did it the outher way around, as the rechagable batterypacks are so expensive. We have to import them cause they are not available. so we took 18 1.5VAA rechagable ones and made a 9 V block…
cheers
Rhoody
I just tried this and it had D size batteries in it..
the 9v hack works. the 6v hack is fake. http://www.flickr.com/photos/58088303@N00/1427218268/in/photostream/
