I would like to add my comments about popping popcorn on the ear. We are Ohio popcorn growers and are known for selling whole ears to our customers. We put the fun in popping popcorn by showing them how to make fresh right off the ear. Our ears take a minute and a half to fill a paper bag in the microwave oven. Kids of all ages love it.

Covered Bridge Gardens is located in Jefferson, Ohio. the heart of Ashtabula County corn country. We grow yellow, white, blue and crimson (of course we're in Ohio State country). We would be glad to answer any of your questions about popcorn. You can also find us at the Fabulous Food Show on November 13-15, 2009 at the IX Convention Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

I also want to comment that the video is a hoax as she is holding an ear of sweet corn and not popcorn. Popcorn is about half that size.

See the link http://www.bigredpopcorn.com/ for on the cob popcorn. They sell it and ship. The concept is not a hoax, while the video may be.

You can pop corn off a cob, but you have to use flint corn, like the multicolored indian corn. You can identify the right type by tapping the kernals. If they are hard like "flint" they will work. It takes a while, and I tried two ears and one that I boiled first and then used provided a lot more pop corn.

I'm growing popcorn this year, and even though you can't pop regular corn, you can eat popcorn as long as you pick it before it matures and dries out. In fact the corn in the video isn't popcorn, because the husk is still green. So there is no way that it would pop even if it was popcorn. Also if you do pop corn while it is still on the cob, most of the kernals would come off of the cob when they pop although some will stick. I recomend that if you grow popcorn grow the variety called Indian Corn. The kernals are all different colors.

Hey! You can have popcorn on a cob. I have family in Nebraska and it is known there.. Every year they send me an ear for xmas! lol But it's not like sweet corn!! So a normal ear of corn would not work! But you put the ear in a clear bag etc and it pops and you open it up and season to your liking.. They might have a website, I know the company is called Big Red Pop Corn,Inc. And it is in Nebraska! It's like $2.50 an ear.. try it.. I encourage you to.. it's a different experience!

I have been searching for someone who can tell me the steps taken to prepare popcorn on the cob from harvest to cooking. If you have time I am really wanting to try my hand at planting some this year. I don't have a clue about after harvest care or cooking and can't seem to find info. Once again, thanks for your time.

ACTUALLY - this is not a hoax. The trick is that it has to be POPCORN on the cob - which is quite different from regular (sweet) corn on the cob. I grew up working on a pumpkin patch in the summers, and yes, we grew and sold popcorn. It comes on a cob like sweet corn. And you can pop it in the microwave! (I've never seen it in a regular grocery store.)

I did try this with already refridgerated corn on the cob, so I cut the freezer time down 15 minutes--I heard the popping sound, but didn't see any results, so I kept adding time. Eventually, everything burned and it took hours to air out the house. After opening the husk, there were no popped corn! So, what was the popping sound!!!???

If you take one of those decorative ears of dried corn (check your local craft store) and toss it in the microwave, you get popcorn on the cob.

Aw man! That's a bummer, we all got taken on this. I was getting all excited to tell my brother in Dallas. For some odd reason, the last couple years, I've been wondering about corn and popcorn and the differences and such. And when I was in town over the summer, my bro and I got into a discussion about it - we were just wondering together... So I was totally going to show him this video. Oh well. Heehee.

(The new way your comments sort makes the threaded comments hard to read...or maybe the unthreaded comments are hard to read. Oh heck - the flow of the conversation doesn't quite flow correctly! There - I got it out! ha!)

And, if you take a look, she grabbed on to a corn husk that had spent seven minutes in a microwave on high without burning herself.

I had a feeling it was fake. With the cutaways, they simply put some popcorn in a corn husk. The husk acted as a bag, and voila!

The results are now in! Guess what... it's a hoax. :-)

I gave it a try, and all I got was some fresh microwaved corn. Hehehe. But it was worth it.

You know, when I first saw this I thought "I've got some frozen corn in the freezer right now! But that won't pop. Maybe it has something to do with the fresh corn being only partially frozen?"

Nah, just a clever little hoax that someone put together. And they got us good.

Never heard about this, sounds like fun though.

It might work but produce smaller popcorn than the traditional way.

aaah ok, so if its alright to leave it overnight

we shall see what's john outcome of his popcorn, if it works

with such nifty ideas natural corn is cheaper than those ready-made popcorns. being a student, anything to cut cost, i'm all for it!

i wonder how am i going to explain this to my date when in the movies, when i bring my own corn! haha :p
