I have seen this photo many times.
USA needs to invent something for Saudi to distinguish their women. For example, a tagging system :). You can attach around the head some sort of tag (like the tag we use for our bags in airports) so one of these women could know where is she standing …
or, you can find a unique id for each women and enforce women to have big ID somewhere on their tents ….

Haha that’s a pretty awesome picture. And by picture I mean the picture of the picture-taking.
There’s great variety in those burkas. Two have multi-seam stitching. One has wider shoulder inserts. And the third one from the right is showing a lot more of the bridge of her nose. These women are not very modest by some standards, remember those blue table clothes the Taliban had afghan women wearing back before 9/11.

I’d have to agree with Mark above, although I wouldn’t put it so bluntly. I agree that from a US citizen’s perspective, this photo is hilarious. We are used to seeing people’s faces in photos, and are also used to seeing scantily clad women everywhere.
But it would be very ethnocentric to try and judge the lifestyles of other cultures based on our own perspective. Apparently, they like their women like this over there. :D

Actually, I don’t think you’re quite correct here. If people are going to go out walking around in public flaunting their religious culture via the clothes they wear then they are opening themselves up to comment.
I find the Islamic dress code for women to be the most visibly insulting icon of that religion. It underscores the inequality inherant in that belief system and publicly brands women as “property”. It is the most disgusting human practice that I can think of – well, besides the fact that Islamic men actually beat their wives. I have no respect for any man that treats women as less than equals.
Oh, and racism refers directly to a “race” of people, like black, white, yellow, or whatever. I’m taking a jab at a religious practice so you should really look into finding a better name to call me. Maybe something like “bigot”, “a-hole” or “jerk”.

And while I wholeheartedly agree with John about the degradation factor in this vile practice, I am quite sure you wouldn’t go to that blog and call them racists, or even jerks, or even a**holes.
I mean, heck – if it was me and my mother and my sister and my cousin dressed as such – I don’t know that I’d want a picture, because, like John said – ‘What’s the point?’

one of the good things about this blog is that NOBODY is forcing you to read or comment it.
Looking at 19 comments (and only two negative) nearly 90% think its a funny picture, thats not too bad. I also don’t think they are all racists… or pardon… “Jerks”.
There are plenty of other reasons why some people “hate” (a very strong word) America, like there are plenty of reasons why people “love” America. But isn’t it like that with each country in the world ?

we know how to identify ourselves with our without veils, I have friends who wear the veil and so do I and we recognize each other right away, the fact that you cant is your problem not ours

first of all, muslim women are not property. Its actually that way in america with western christian women which is why most western women take on the last name of their husband (note: in Islam a woman keeps her last name after marriage, she is her own person with her own identity in no need of being named after a man she married), do your research it is a sign of the men owning the woman that dates back to Europe, which is exactly the same reason most African americans have white last names, because like the wives of white christian men, so were the slaves forced to take their last name as supposed non human property. that’s why when some one says ,”hey that’s my seat” and the response is “well, I didn’t see your name on it” when you have a slave or a wife in the west you can be like “yeah, well its mine because it has my name on it” so don’t give me that crap.
also, nuns where the same or similar covering and if you look in the bible in 1 corinthians chapter 10 and in the following verses you will see that she wears it on her head as the sign of a authority of a MAN! “the head of every man is christ, and the head of every woman is man, so she should wear a sign (veil) on her head”
“a woman who bears her head in public should have it shaved bald” and what is that you ask? The bible!! NOT the Quran! so pipe down you insensitive ignorant blabber mouth.
The veil in Islam is for so that a woman might be known as a believing woman and not touched when abroad. you want to talk oppression? Whenever people in the west want to sell a watch, a ring, a car, heck even toothpaste what do they do? they DANGLE their mothers and daughters before the camera and sell it that way!
Even Michelle Kissinger will telll you that much (read “Killing us softly”) talk about oppression! no wonder women in the west have eating disorders, low self esteem,and on average when they get married they are not virgins, look how they are treated! you think us to be off, and we think you the same. To you be your religion and to me be mine. I don;t have to worry about being raped or getting cat calls when I walk down the street because I am covered respectfully.
its not funny, its normal. 1.5 billion people in the world are muslim. that means on in every five people on the earth are familiar with this get up, just because your world is isolated and limited to folks like you, you wana call the picture funny. its normal, and they all look different,different heights, shapes, bags, veils, etc. s what they are the same color. If you went to one of those hollywood “white parties” where everyone had on white, even if you could not see faces, because you are familiar with western clothes you would be able to tell people apart, likewise we an do the same, chill.

what difference does it make if a kaffir like you does not know who is who? when we take them PICTURES we know who is who, and that is all that matters. we don’t take them for you to dissect.What is the point of taking pictures of identical twins? EXACTLY! even if you cant tell Tia and Tamera Mowry apart, they can, and they enjoy taking pictures. and besides these women are hardly looking identical to anyone with a decent eye.
I bet a scarf and modest dress would liberate you, especially since you do not look like what the west wants a woman to look like. I bet you would feel much more liberated not having to have the whole world gaze upon your mousy brown hair, and slightly chubby physique and un-stylish glasses – maybe your husband thinks its great but the rest of the world thinks you are unattractive, wouldn’t you feel better only having to go home to his opinion rather then being surrounded by “your not good enough” all the time and the scrutiny that women in America go through from being on display 24/7. please woman. you can say we are oppressed and whatever else all you want to but you aRE NOT US AND YOU DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME OR ANYONE LIKE ME.
