I have gone to many different Churches in my life but if I or anyone who is a rational, common sence, decent person would have walked out of that church and never went back but Obama stayed for 20 years, got married there and had 2 kids baptized there. Rev. wright was not preaching the Holy Bible as it was written. Jesus was not a poor black child he was a Jew. Rev. Wright was teaching hate for white people and Obama listened for 20 years and wrote a book based on the Rev's preaching called "The Audacity of Hope" One of the parragraphs in the book states "The greed of the white man" which is a very racist remark. Probably learned from his pastor. If Obama really thought he was a real Christian he wouldn't need to ask Jesus if he's going up or down, he would already know.

Yeah, it's such a shame too because it's essentially the commercialization of something that should be pristine and pure. The minute religion is even touched on, is the minute it's being used for personal gain which goes against what religion is meant to be in the first place.

But it shouldn't be a surprise that politicians will whore out anything they possibly can if it gets them an extra delegate :/

Obama's greatest strength right now is that he is not Hillary. The Dems have sent up some very unappealing candidates but I don't recall an "anybody but Kerry" or "anybody but Gore" attitudes like the "anybody but Hillary" attitudes I hear expressed.

Any ways, them fellars from Read state update are right funny even to this California Yankee. Jackie 08!

It's sad, but, the 'extremeness' of the first video, while definitely funny - is very close to the reality of what my house will be filled with tomorrow. Yikes. People who say crazy shit, like - "Katrina was the best thing to ever happen to New Orleans. You know, get rid of all that bad element down there." Dear God!!

Both extremes are quite unnerving, for sure, but, I think I'd be more comfortable in Obama's church than with some of my in-laws!

I agree with Mistergin, that these politicians need to keep their religion out of their jobs! Let me tell you, though, how shocked I've been to learn how blurry that line between church and state is here in the south, often being nonexistent. It's been an enlightening and nauseating experience, that's for sure!

Hah, check out last week's SNL... Or maybe the weekend before.. they did a skit about the Dem debates and were making a big running joke about how they babied Obama and always gave Hillary the tough questions..

No matter who you're voting for (I think HIllary actually had a cameo that night), it was damned funny :)

Obama is a bandwagon phenomina that has had little real scrutiny throughout the primary campaign. It is good to examine all the precursurs to who Obama is and whom he has revered in his life. not good news here.

Religion seems to play a huge part in the US campaigns but is barely an issue for us in the UK. Hopefully this wont affect Obama's chances though.

One day an old boss was curious when in the 04 elections I said I wouldn't be voting Republican.

She said, and I quote:

"But I thought you were a Christian? Didn't you see Bush at his prayer meeting the other day? We need a man of faith like him to lead this nation. I'm kind of disappointed that you're not factoring God into your vote."

I had no response. How could you possibly expect a person who just said that to understand any sort of argument to the contrary?

The sad truth is that people often blindly follow anyone with a loud voice and a sense of direction. When my boss' preacher explained how Bush was "God's candidate" - an upper class CEO like my boss didn't even think twice.

I think a lot of folks will make that association between him and his preacher based on their thinking that that's the standard type of behavior expected from a "good follower".

Before the primaries, Ron Paul was asked about his religion and he had this to say:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=CW4otVz8DdU

I have to agree wholeheartedly about this too. One thing that always bothered ME as a christian when I was in high school was that the kids in the high school youth groups were so two faced. They could go drinking one night and dress up and act good for church the next day.

It was almost as if the importance of showing everyone HOW christian you were trumped the importance of truly following through on your words.

Anytime anyone brings up the word "God" or talks about their faith when running for office, I get a shiver down my spine.

They know it, and I know it - they made it a POINT to talk about their religion to shore up voters who will vote solely based off of "how christian this candidate is" and that reasoning disgusts me to no end.

One thing my dad always told me when I was young was that you could spot the true believers from the fake believers by simply looking around.

The fake believers are talking while the true believers are somewhere else DOING.

Personally, I'd like to see candidates less concerned about crazy pastors and more concerned about a dropping dollar, going back to the great depression when large banks buy up smaller banks en masse and regain ultimate control over the banking system, etc.

I don't care what the massaged "Consumer Pricing Index" says... my bread and bananas are almost double what they were last year. Just as my milk is.

There is nothing else to focus on when it comes to the point where middle class Americans are forced to live off of processed foods like Mac and Cheese because meats, fruits, and bread are now too expensive to eat.

I want my president to keep his religion in his church and UNTELEVISED. His duties at work do not require his religion to get involved, just as my duties at work do not require me to bring MY relgion with me.

Focus on what needs focusing on. =/

So I wonder, now that you’ve seen this, does it make a difference?

To answer your question...No, not if you have at least half a brain. A person doesn't have to agree with everything his/her preacher says. In fact, there will be many differences of opinion between preachers and parishioners. That being said, I am afraid that many people across the U.S. will think that Obama is on board with everything that his preacher says.

Hm I definitely think that stuff is pretty outrageous. I kind of wonder whether we can believe that Obama has even been going to the church at all! Maybe he was sleeping through the messages over the years. Whatever the case, it's probably just a flare up that could harm him depending on his reaction to it.
