Gambling and Gluttony in Las Vegas

john-p-wins-againFolks, I went to Las Vegas last week for business meetings, but during the evening I did take a little break from working on Layered Technologies and Woopra stuff for a few hours to go have dinner at the Bellagio Buffet, and then do a little gambling after dinner.

Had such a great time that I thought I’d share it with you guys.

king-crab-legsFirst of all, I acted like a complete pig at the buffet. Oh yes, I hurt myself!

buffalo-top-sirloinI started out with at least a couple of pounds of split Alaskan King Crab legs, followed by spicy pepperoni pizza and gyros, and then some Buffalo sirloin steak and hand carved turkey breast with gravy, mashed potatos, corn and mushrooms.

Incidentally, I tried the Buffalo because everyone says it’s so good and lean and has Omega 3′s in it and all that. Well, it was very lean, but I also found it to be tough. Frankly I’d take a nice porterhouse over this any day.

john-p-desert-at-bellagioAfter all of that I scarfed down a plate full of deserts including key lime pie, lemon pie, chocolate mousse, and God only knows what else.

The thing about the deserts is that they all look good enough to put on a postcard! And they taste pretty good too, thought not quite as good as they look.

john-p-winner-at-penny-slotsAfter I was finished gorging myself like a a child on Halloween, my buddy Chris and I went to the casinos to throw away our money!

winning-at-penny-slotsChris is actually a pretty big gambler, and I can’t believe some of the stuff I’ve seen him win! But this night was mine, all mine! Ok, so I only play the penny slots! Who cares? Because I went over and hit the jackpot baby!

Yeah, that’s me winning like $200 on the old penny slots!

penny-slot-payoutBut wait, that isn’t good enough! 5 minutes later I had a repeat on another machine about 5 feet from the first!

Yeah, the people around me were ready to choke the living crap out of me… but I didn’t care!

So, 15 minutes after I ate at the buffet I was a few hundred dollars richer. Now that is what I call getting fat, and happy!

  1. Sounds like a ton of fun! Except that your food choices suck – ewwwww! Well, I’d eat the corn on the cob! :P Yes, I’m a terribly picky eater! I love slot machines, though – but, I’ve never played on real ones. You’d think I would’ve, going back and forth between Alabama and Dallas all these years – you only pass about seventy thousand Harrah’s signs – I get so sick of that damn parrot!

I hope we hear lots about the trip you’re leaving for today! With pics and vids, too!

  2. I am looking forward to going to there is 2 weeks. It is my first time and I am staying at the MGM Grand….any tips on what I should do while I am there?

Oh sounds like fun! Hm I’m not too sure that the food choices would be at the top of my list if I were at the Bellagio buffet. But really, that stuff sounds pretty good right about now!

Pretty awesome with actually winning at those penny slots. I never thought that anyone actually ever did.

    Colin,

Well, there are a few things that are kind of obligatory for first time visitors to Las Vegas. I’m going to name several things, and just try and fit in whatever you have time for…

    • Go see Cirque du Soliel. I recommend Mystere or ‘O’.
    • Walk through several of the casinos. Most importantly: Caesars, Bellagio, MGM, Harrahs, Venetian, and Treasure Island.
    • Play some penny slots and some nickel slots. Look for the ones that have bonus games up at the top. They’re the most fun!
    • Eat at the Bellagio buffet if you get a chance, otherwise any of those hotel buffets I named will do.
    • If you want some mexican food, try Gonzales y Gonzales in New York, New York
    • Walk through the Caesar’s Forum Shops (mall) and also the Venetian Shops.
    • If you have half a day to kill, go to Harrahs and rent a car for a day. Drive to lake Meade and check out Hoover Dam. It’s 30 minutes away.

Those are things that pop up off the top of my head. Perhaps some other people might have some more suggestions…

    John

  5. Oh I forgot about the dam. Good point! Thanks a lot John for the tips.

Thats more money for more buffets, not a gambler any more, I do not know anyone that actually wins. And its those that do not play often that win, its a way of getting people addicted. I like all the entertainments and the buffets. Lots of different food at really discounted prices. feed them so that they need to sit of those chairs and gamble.
