This is seriously cool. While traveling yesterday I happened to pick up a copy of the October 2008 edition of Esquire Magazine. It features the world’s first E-Ink cover. You can’t miss it because the text is scrolling across it and it is just generally bad ass!
Since a photo ain’t gonna do you any good, I took a video of it to share with everyone. I highly recommend you go get one NOW if you’re interested because these things are not going to last.
Holly S**t!!!! I’ve gotta get me one of those! I’m guessing it has an internal battery but can you turn it on and off? I wouldn’t want it to die after so long…or can you replace the battery?
Wow - that’s a trip! I figured it’d be more than that, for sure! I’ve gotta go get one - if ‘Hillbillyville’ will cooperate! Ha! I may have to get it on Amazon or something… LOL
Impressive, but still limited. The next step, where the information displayed is dynamic, will be more interesting. Think a front cover contents display that shows headlines and teaser text with a picture for each subject in the issue.
I am shuddering at the dismal realisation that the first use will be advertising. As if flashy (and flashing) web page banners aren’t bad enough…

Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie!!!!
That’s totally awesome! They had to transport it in refrigerated trucks! Very cool - wonder if my itty bitty town has some copies? LOL
How much did it cost? Was it more than the normal issue price?
$5.99. It looks to me like the price was subsidized by Ford with their e-Ink ad on the interior of the cover. Which I’m guessing is also a first.

They needed somebody to pay for it… cool nonetheless
