Right Brain vs. Left Brain Test

by John P.

spinning-womanOk folks, I’m not sure if this is a joke or what. The Australian Herald Sun posted this Right Brain vs. Left Brain test which is nothing more than a picture of a lady spinning around.

THE Right Brain vs Left Brain test … do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

They add the following interpretation:

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
“big picture” oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can “get it” (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

Frankly, I only see the lady turning clockwise. I find it very difficult to believe that ANYONE sees it turning counter-clockwise, much less most people! So please take a moment and leave a comment to let me know how you see it. If everyone sees clockwise I’m going to call this test a fraud…

Well I see her turning anti-clockwise. But I’m also able to make her turn clockwise when I focus on her.

Oh, cmon….
For a while will turn CW then the rotation will change CCW.
Look at that for at least 30 sec and you will see ;)

not true, me and my friend looked at it at the same time and it was rotating in opposite directions for both of us.

haha i saw that too.. it changes a bit quickly.. if you look at the raised arm, it is, most of the time, the left arm.. but if you stare at it, you’ll see that the right will be raised then quickly back to the left.. tricky animation..

somewhat valid, while the simplistic “left right” categorization is these days discounted by most psychologists, there is some truth to the saying all left handed people are the only ones in their right mind…

I only saw her turning clockwise at first, but I can now make her switch directions at will.

Starting/concentrating only one her foot on the ground you may be able to make her switch directions. Also, if you look past your monitor so that she is in the periphery you may be able to detect her moving in another direction than you originally thought, then all you have to do is slowly move your field of vision until you are looking right at her and she should be going the opposite of whatever you originally thought.

And for the record, even though according to the test I’m a right-brain-emotional person, I don’t think anyone in my life would tell you that. I tend to make a lot of my decisions on logic without regard to my or anyone else’s feelings.

Clockwise here as well.

Agree with Vingold about glancing away/viewing with your periphery vision.

Another way though it is to glance down to the bottom and watch the foot shadow…though again I think the trick is a gentle shift in your eyes such that the image is registered/processed by different portion of the retina? Not sure.

I can see it going both ways after it goes for awhile so its possiable its just set on a loop to spin a certian direction and then change.

I saw counterclockwise, initially, then saw a change of direction when I read some of the text.

I now see a dancer continually changing direction.

I’m not sure whether to be pleased or worried now…

(Maybe it’s just due to a clunky wifi connection.)

Hey!!

What a nice test.
Actually, i saw it turning anti-clockwise , and when refocusing, I see it turning clockwise….

Interesting!!

I think it goes counter clockwise, but someone else saidit goes both ways.

Wow, I can only see it clockwise. I’m trying to focus and see it counter-clockwise but I can’t. That’s so strange!

After initially only seeing her turn clockwise, I can now flip one way or the other at will. A blink helps the change happen

I saw her initially clockwise. Easiest way to “make” her change direction is to look at the shadow of her foot at the bottom and try to see it going in the opposite direction. Works for me every time….

its easy to see it turns clockwise you have to be retarded to think otherwise

I can see her moving in both directions. The key here is to rotate your head until the figure is barely in the corner of your peripheral vision then turn quickly and look at it face on. If you do this a number of times, you’ll catch it and see it seemingly rotate the other way.

If depends on which side if your dominant brain. My first impression was counter-clockwise, then by doing what I suggest above, I saw it as clockwise.

Definitely clockwise; but if you look at her shadow on the floor, she is moving counterclockwise.
And yes, she is hot, for a shadow.

She goes both ways, we verified it by having several people watch her at the same time, everyone saw the changes, as well as the sort of glitch when she switches directions :)

I think this is looped to change directions after a period. I’ve seen it revert back and forth a few times now. At first it was confusing, but then I finally caught it changing directions.

I saw her counter-clockwise at first, and then about 10 seconds later, clockwise. :]

Ok. At work while looking at it with some other folks I was able to see it turn directions. But then, when I got home and looked at it again – no dice! Still only clockwise.

Grrrrr..

She’s been around a long time (and around and around!). She’s even on Wikipedia.

I see both. For a while its counter-clockwise, then changes to clockwise. I don’t think it is an optical illusion because you can focus on the foot which definitely defines the rotational direction.

i can see going both directions one after the other.
