Funny Foods From the Asian Market

img_0348Ok, ok. I know what a bunch of you are going to say, so I’ll get it out of the way so you don’t have to…

  • This blog is racist! What have you got against Asian food?
  • Um, since there are like 2 billion Asians and only a few white people, did you ever consider that maybe YOU’RE the one eating strange food?
  • You don’t even eat vegetables do you?

Well, you can comment all you like, but it’s going to fall on deaf ears! I went to the Vietnamese grocery store with my very, um… Vietnamese, sister-in-law, and I snapped these photos of strange foods with my trusty iPhone.

I bet you can’t even identify half of them!

The stuff that is recognisable in their natural state is usually the safest…..hehehehehe…..but not necessarily the most presentable, though! Identifying the ingredients in some of the processed offerings could be a bit of a challenge though, and is best left to the experts to decipher…..

As a super picky eater, I can definitely say ….

YUCK!!!!

I do have to say, though, that my brother-in-law dated a Vietnamese girl, back when we all lived in Dallas – and she made the. very. best. eggrolls. EVAH!!! We all still talk about those durned eggrolls …longingly ….

Once in a while, I go to a fish market in a certain location that has most of these foods that you have images of here, and I tend to try one or another each time or two. Also, the store has many items that are frozen in water into a rectangular package, including mint leaves and other herb leaves. There tends to be plenty of packaged shrimp, scallops, and other seafood. The variety of fish they have makes the place quite appealing for that purpose.

No way man! I hate it especially the smell :D It’s a major turn off

But I guess with durian, you either love it or hate it!

Definitely a journey the adventurous eater should go on. This is not for the faint hearted or conservative eater that is used to baked beans on toast and other more western type fare. You have been warned!

LOVE asian markets, so wish there was one in Springfield, Missouri. My personal favorite is the lychee fruit! So darn yummy!

Oh, and the lychee has it’s own website (not mine) at http://www.lycheesonline.com

My roommate lives close to China town in New York City and he always tried out the craziest things. he loves it, but it’s definitely not for me. I don’t even like their candy.
