The John P. Health Challenge Update #2

John P. Doing PullupsI’m back with another Health Challenge update for you guys. It’s been about two weeks since the last update, and when I last came to you I weighed 183 (down from a high of 195). Those of you who are checking in on the Health Challenge page have seen me documenting the changes occurring as a result of the Challenge, most recently, the fact that I dropped below 180 today for the first time in a long time.

Here is the current summary of activity and results. I did workout on the days in between, but didn’t document except on days when I took a measurement.

Date Pullups Squat Thrusts Pushups Arm Curls Treadmill Weight Body Fat
April 6 35 34 reps / 60 lbs. 188.8 lbs. 22.5%
April 9 30 reps / 60 lbs. 186.5 lbs. 22.1%
April 12 50 20 87 reps / 60 lbs. 185 lbs. 21.7%
April 15 80 57 reps / 60 lbs. 183 lbs. 21.5%
April 20 15 125 20 25 reps / 70 lbs. 182.4 lbs. 21.3%
April 25 50 181.1 lbs. 20.9%
April 29 15 50 56 75 reps / 60 lbs. 178.6 lbs. 20.4%

As you can see, my body fat percentage has decreased by approximately 2% in these three weeks. I actually lost about an additional 1% in the previous couple of weeks, and I’m looking forward to breaking the 20% barrier and being down in the teens once again. Ideally, I would like to be at 10%, so we’ll see how close I can get in our remaining 2 months. That is going to be tough to do given the relatively slow progress in the last month, but I guess I’d be happy to even hit 15% at this point.

Completely Insane Mexican Wrestlers!

Mexican WrestlingGood Lord! I’ve watched a LOT of wrestling in my days, but the junk we get here in the good old US of A just doesn’t compete with those crazy Mexicans who literally risk life and limb! One of these days I’ve got to get down to ol’ Mexico to watch a REAL wrestlin’ match!

Oh, by the way, my favorite is when the big guy is fighting the little guy, and the little guy is spinning around the big guy like he was the Tasmanian Devil from the cartoons. It’s muy fantastico! BTW, I wonder what the annual death toll is from Mexican wrestling? Cause it’s got to be HIGH!

Jumping into Jeans… Literally!

backflipping-into-jeansYou know, each morning when I wake up and go to get dressed I’m like, “Man, this whole getting dressed thing sure is boring. I wish there were a way to spice things up a bit!” Well, if you’re like me, have I got the answer for your daily hum-drums!

How about this? Next time you need to put your jeans on, have a couple of buddies hold them, climb up onto the second floor and jump down into them! Don’t worry about any potential bodily harm from this methodology… surely the pants will protect you!

My $2,550 Routine Doctor Exam – WTF?!?

doctor-billFolks, a few weeks ago I went to the doctor to get a physical. Nothing special whatsoever. Just a routine annual physical. It was a two part visit. The first time I went they took blood to run the normal tests (I’m healthy). Then I went a few days later to see the doctor and get checked out.

So, I leave the office and a couple weeks later I get some paperwork from my insurance company informing me that the doctor has billed them $2,550.00 for the visit, and they were paying $2,046.00 after the healthplan discount. What the FXXK?!?

International Health Challenge Push-Up Day is Saturday May 16th!

John P PushupsOk folks, I’m declaring Saturday, May 16, 2009, International Health Challenge push-up day. What the heck does that mean? Well, it means a few things:

  1. Everyone will have 24 hours to do, and keep track of, as many push-ups as they can muster in one day!
  2. Someone is going to do the most! Hmmm… can anyone out there challenge me? I think not!
  3. We’re all going to be really sore on Sunday May 17th!

So, here in Dallas, not only am I going to do push-ups all day long, but I’m going to organize some sort of a Tweetup event for all the Health Challenge folks to get together!

Maybe a local park? Hotdogs, hamburgers and pushups? Whose with me on this? Oh, and of course if you can’t join us in Dallas, that doesn’t mean you can’t organize your own local event! Just spread the word and lets get people around the globe participating all together!

Just imagine how cool it will be if we have a hundred, or a thousand people giving their updates all day long on Twitter! I swear, that… would… ROCK!

The Porsche Panamera is So Ugly… Someone Should Be Fired!

porsche-panameraThis wretched hog of a vehicle looks like an AMC pacer had it’s way with a 911, and the god-forbidden spawn grew up into the Porsche Panamera. Seriously, I wouldn’t care if this thing had 1,000 horsepower, and hovered. I will ridicule anyone who buys it. Mercilessly.

Go ahead! Just take a look at what the geniuses over there have put out to compete with Mercedes, Jaguar, Maserati, Lexus and the like. I just watched this video, and nearly threw up. Way to go boys! It’s not bad enough that the aged 911 gets its ass handed to it by a Nissan, now you’re going to make fools of yourselves in the family sedan market. Brilliant.

REVIEW: EVGA USB VGA Adapter Adds Two or MORE Monitors to MacBook Pro

EVGA USB VGA AdapterI just received a few EVGA USB VGA Adapters from Amazon.com and installed them so that I could hook up two more external monitors to my MacBook Pro. Now that I’ve done that, I may just add a couple more for no reason other than the fact that… I can!

The EVGA USB VGA Adapter lets you add monitors to your PC or Mac at up to 1600×1200 Resolution (or 1680×1050 for widescreen monitors like mine). This is actually a big deal, because there are a few other USB video adapters out there, but they have lower resolution capabilities – like 1280×1024. It’s also a big deal because most of the other adapters out there only have Windows drivers! For some reason, the manufacturers just ignore the Mac population.

BumpTop Turns Windows into a 3D Environment

bumptopWell, I’m assuming that by now just about everyone who reads my blog also checks out GeekBrief.TV at least occasionally. Neal and Cali produce that show, and they just covered a very cool looking application for Windows called BumpTop.

BumpTop is a desktop replacement application which allows you to have a 3D environment instead of your boring flat desktop. This will let you pin things on virtual walls, have news delivered while you work, automate the sharing of photos with Flickr, and just a bunch of other things.
