I’m not exactly sure how to describe this work, so I’ve decided to call it perpetually destructive performance painting.
Essentially a group of artists start with a canvas of some sort and begin painting and repainting it while a stop motion camera makes a video record of the process.
It allows art lovers to view the entire creative process in a very short time and also demonstrates the skill and imagination of the artists involved.

Here is an excellent example of technology being employed to create new forms of art the world has never seen.
Of course, it’s brought to you by the geniuses over at the MIT labs, and it’s an invention called the I/O brush.

This is an excellent animation which is quite unique. Though I’m posting an image of the finished drawing, what is so extraordinary is how the artist arrives at this state, not the actual woman’s image you see here.

I thought this topic was particularly fitting given that it’s New Years Eve and tomorrow people are going to be needing a lot of this…
First of all, I don’t drink coffee. But if I did, I think I’d want to have one made by this guy!
Here is, what must be, a professional barista actually creating art out of coffee (or cappuccino or latte or whatever it is :-)).

Al Hirschfeld, one of the most famous caricaturists in the world, created this Paul Newman drawing when he was 99 years old. His wife filmed him throughout the course of a day and it took him a full 8 hours to complete.
Hirschfeld is known for hiding the name of his daughter, Nina, in most of the drawings he produced since her birth in 1945. The name would appear in a sleeve, in a hairdo, or somewhere in the background. Sometimes “NINA” would show up more than once and Hirschfeld would helpfully add a number next to his signature, to let people know how many times her name would appear.

I wouldn’t say that this artist’s style particularly appeals to me, but I will say that the level of talent and creativity involved do.
In 10 minutes Janez Jevnikar can take a piece of canvas and create a unique piece of artwork that is pretty darn interesting. There is a great level of skill here and a lot of practice as well.

Daniel Gentile, a bladesmith in Switzerland, recently posted a video online demonstrating many of the steps involved in the production of Damascus - or pattern-welded steel.
Those of you who know me are aware that I am also a Bladesmith and I studied under four separate American Bladesmith Society Master Bladesmiths, Joe Flournoy, Mike Williams, James Cook and Steve Dunn.
Among my courses of study, Damascus production was the toughest. There are only a few hundred people on the planet that can make this stuff, and once you make a billet of it you still need to be able to turn it into an actual finished blade and then a completed knife.

Especially for you aeronautical fans out there, here is a collection of images you can use to decorate your desktop wallpaper.
Some of these photos are really, really cool. I especially like the one of a plane that looks like it’s breaking the sound barrier or something.

This jewel of a video was pointed out by Terry. It’s a highly creative musical video with a twist!
I can honestly say that I’ve never seen music made in this manner before. Watch and see…

Sometimes it’s just plain easier to search for art online from the comfort of your own home than to go driving all over town. So, here is a quick guide to buying art online.
Before we get started, another great option is to find your nearest fine art show and go check it out. There are usually around 200 artists in attendance and you might just find a real quality piece of work that you can be proud of.
