How Crack Cocaine is Made

How to Make CrackAs a follow up to my previous post regarding the manufacture of cocaine, I came across the attached image documenting the process of transforming normal cocaine to crack cocaine.

I actually struggled with myself as to whether or not to actually share this information, but ultimately I decided to post it for the following reasons:

  • The criminals already know how to make crack cocaine. It is only the law abiding citizens that wonder what it is.
  • The manufacture of crack requires that one already possess cocaine. These instructions won’t hurt anyone that doesn’t already have a serious issue on their hands.
  • The information already exists on the Internet.

The Real Bionic Woman

BionicsA lot of people out there are too young to remember the 1970’s TV show The Bionic Woman, starring Lindsay Wagner, so in short it was about a woman who had near super-human powers as a result of bionic implants after a skydiving accident.

Well, reality becomes one step closer to fiction now that Claudia Mitchell, a former US marine, has been fitted with her new bionic arm. This new piece of technology is controlled by thought, and is six times faster than older technology in actual usage.

Sobriety TestDr. David J. Hanson, Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the State University of New York at Potsdam has put together a vast amount of information related to the accuracy of current drunk driving testing methods based on his 30+ years of research.

I was surprised to learn that even non-drinkers could easily fail a sobriety test - including a breath alcohol test.

DCA - The Cancer AnswerI sure hope either my current, or soon to be, sister-in-law (both doctors) responds to this article with some commentary (hint, hint)…

This article courtesy of New Scientist, and brought to my attention by Cash Struck.

It sounds almost too good to be true: a cheap and simple drug that kills almost all cancers by switching off their “immortality”. The drug, dichloroacetate (DCA), has already been used for years to treat rare metabolic disorders and so is known to be relatively safe.

It also has no patent, meaning it could be manufactured for a fraction of the cost of newly developed drugs.

Scallops, the Single Most Perfect Food

ScallopsYears ago, while watching a cooking show, I heard a nutritionist state that if they were forced to eat only one food for the rest of their life they would choose Scallops. The assertion was that as a source of important nutrients, they simply couldn’t be beaten.

I’m not sure how thouroughly researched that claim was, but it stuck with me because I simply love to eat scallops! Recently I decided that I need to incorporate more seafood into my diet and I went looking for some nutritional information on my old favorite. Here now is everything you ever wanted to know about the king of the mollusks!

Coke CanBelow is an excellent little video that shows exactly how much sugar is in a can of coke. And before you watch it, if you do a little math, here are some staggering figures:

  • There are 12 ounces (340 grams) in a can of coke.
  • There are 39 grams (1.38 ounces) of sugar in a can.
  • 340 grams / 39 grams = Coke is over 10% pure sugar!
  • If you typically drink the equivalent of 6 cans a day you are consuming over 8 ounces or 1/2 pound of pure sugar per day.
    • 24 oz. at lunch
    • 2 cans during the day
    • 24 oz. at dinner
  • That level of sugar consumption equates to about 15 pounds of raw sugar per month, or 182.5 pounds per year. (This happens to be about my body weight.)
  • Don’t drink that much Coke? Well, 3 cans a day still equals 7.5 pounds per month or 91.25 pounds per year that your body has to either burn off or store as fat.
    • Sweet Tea has almost the same amount of sugar
    • Sweetened Coffee counts too. A heaping tablespoon of sugar is about 20 grams.

40 Amazing Facts About Sleep

Counting Penguins

  1. Anything less than five minutes to fall asleep at night means you’re sleep deprived. The ideal is between 10 and 15 minutes, meaning you’re still tired enough to sleep deeply, but not so exhausted you feel sleepy by day.
  2. A new baby typically results in 400-750 hours lost sleep for parents in the first year.
  3. Tiny luminous rays from a digital alarm clock can be enough to disrupt the sleep cycle even if you do not fully wake. The light turns off a “neural switch” in the brain, causing levels of a key sleep chemical to decline within minutes.

Celebrity Plastic Surgery

Plastic SurgeryI’m not normally all that interested in celebrities, however I came across a site run by a plastic surgeon who speculates on the amount of plastic surgery that celebrities have had and it’s actually fairly interesting.

CelebrityCosmeticSurgery.blogspot.com, run by Dr. Tony Youn, seems to be updated every couple of days. There must be hundreds of posts complete with commentary.

To me, the Dr’s commentary is as interesting as the celebrities who’ve had the work done. He regularly says that he doesn’t think certain people need or should have had a procedure done, which is quite refreshing.
