There is a common Greek soup called Avgolemono which is basically a Chicken & Rice soup with a slight lemon flavor that happens to make normal Chicken & Rice soup pale by comparison (In Greek the “avgo” means egg and the “lemono” is lemon). The only problem is that traditional Avgolemono soup takes hours to prepare and, while the payoff is fantastic, most people just don’t have the time to dedicate to that sort of venture.

Some people don’t want to attempt to cook Greek food because a few of the dishes are pretty complex. Well, this isn’t one of them. The worst thing about making these tasty pastries is that they take a little time. I’d say start to finish in about an hour.
The name Tiropita (pronounced tee-RO-pee-ta) translates literally to “cheese pie”. This recipe is actually for what I affectionately call Tiropitaki. You see, adding “aki” on the end of a Greek word means “little” so these are actually small cheese pies.
As a side note, my little cousin Sonia likes to call ME cousinaki - despite the fact that I’m at least a foot taller and almost double her weight…

Every car built since 1996 has a diagnostic computer connection under the dash called an OBD-II which allows mechanics to plug in and find out what that annoying red light on the dash is trying to tell you. Of course, getting a mechanic to plug in and tell you what’s wrong will probably cost you at least $100.

According to the September 2006 issue of Men’s Health magazine, researchers at UCLA discovered that small dietary modifications can make a big difference with regards to weight loss, which we all know contributes to overall health.
“In the study, normal-weight people reported eating, on average, two servings of fruit and 12 grams of fiber a day; those who were overweight had just one serving and 9 grams.
Credit that extra 3 grams of fiber - the amount in one apple or orange - as the difference maker.
Fiber slows digestion and enhances satiety, says study author Beth Gillham, Ph.D., R.D.”

Ok folks, those that know me know that I don’t eat salad. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to prepare a tasty and healthy one for my freeloaders friends who come over for dinner.
So, here is a handy little guide to getting the most antioxident bang for the buck when constructing those salads.

Now, I know someone is going to accuse me of making up this silly post about beer just so I could post this photo online.
So? Is that a problem?
Anyway, the inspiration for this post was actually a pile of little known beer facts. Enjoy:

Hmm. Seems those zany scientists in New Zealand have discovered that most energy drinks will turn you into a bloated porker.
According to the September 2006 issue of Mens Health magazine:
“The researchers observed that downing an energy drink containing 80 mg of caffeine and 24 g sugar - about the amount in an 8.3 ounce can of Red Bull - completely inhibited people’s ability to burn fat.”

Those of you that know The Man know that I don’t eat green things. Instead, I eat things that eat green things. That being said, if I were going to directly consume salad I guess I’d have to go with the McDonald’s Grilled Chicken Asian Salad.
Although I previously posted about the loose definition of “grilled chicken” at McDonalds, the salad there seems to be relatively healthy. At least compared to Wendy’s Mandarin Chicken Salad.

Some Aussie scientists have made the fascinating discovery that drinking alcoholic beverages made with artificial sweeteners will get you hammered TWICE as fast as straight sugar based alcoholic drinks.
The theory is that the sugar slows down the absorption of the alcohol in the stomach, while artificial sweeteners do nothing of the sort.

If you’re new to an area, traveling, or just want to find some new places to eat, ToEat.com provides an interesting and different type of restaurant search engine.
What makes this site different is that it combines a Google Maps mashup that overlays restaurant locations. In addition to being able to choose a specific area by city, state or zip code you can also select the type of food you’re in the mood for. So, if its Mexican you’re after, that’s all you’ll get.
I’m a big fan of the Wendy’s Spicy Chicken sandwich. I also enjoys me some McDonald’s chicken nuggets. But seriously, only multi-national fast food chains can take something as healthy as fresh chicken breast and make it as bad for you as a greasy pepperoni pizza.

I love to eat seafood. But since there are a few billion other people that share that sentiment, many varieties of fish are being taken at an alarming rate. In fact, at a rate that cannot be sustained.
So, the Aquarium in Monterey California has put togetherthis nifty site which is designed to help educate us all regarding which seafood comes from sustainable sources, and which is killing off the species.
