While shopping at my local Costco today I happened to come across a PS3 sitting in the case with the cameras, iPods and other electronic goodies. At first I was a little taken aback, but I gathered my senses enough to ask a nearby employee if that was an actual PS3 for sale?
Well, as you can guess by the title of this post, it was, and I bought it. Apparantly it had just been put out a little earlier, and when I got home and opened it I see that it seems to have been previously opened, though its in perfect condition.
Now, I honestly have no use for a game console as I just don’t play them. But I find two things attractive about the PS3. First, it’s a cheap Blue-Ray disc player. Secondly, there is supposed to be a blazingly fast Folding@Home client which you can download and run on the machine when you’re not using it for something else.

I’m no pilot, but for Christmas I did get two new awesome remote control toys: A Blade CX2 electric helicopter and an AeroBird Swift electric airplane. These are not the cheap kind you get at Toys R Us, but the high end ones that come only from hobby stores. (Reviews coming soon…)
Having never owned any high-end R/C machines before I unpacked my toys and proceeded to immediately crash them, with impunity!
After this costly little experience I decided that perhaps it would be less costly to get a little “virtual” practice before I put myself in the poor house buying replacement parts.
Not wanting to spend a fortune on flight simulation games either, I began searching for free ones that would be both entertaining and educational. Here now is my thoroughly tested list of top free flight sims.

Back in 1999 John Carpenter became the first person to actually win on the TV show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Although it’s cool that he actually won the money, the thing that really capped it all off was the way in which he actually won.
After making it all the way to the very last question without using any of his lifelines, he finally decided to call one in. Watch the video to see what happened…

I first went to Las Vegas when I was 27 years old. Until that time I had no interest whatsoever in gambling - courtesy of one of my professors, Dr. Jargowsky, from UTD. He taught a class that dealt with statistical analysis in which I finally came to understand just how futile it is to bet against the odds.
So, when I finally decided to go to Vegas, I also decided to learn to count cards at Blackjack so that at least I’d lose my money slowly. I chose a book called Best Blackjack by Frank Scoblete, I memorized the tables, and then I practiced for weeks using Microsoft Casino (you can download a free trial here). This actually helped a lot as I found that if I played properly I could usually sit at a table all night and come away even or a little up or down (usually down).
Since that time I’ve had a lot more experience in the casinos and as a result I have three bits of advice to offer:

This addictive little game is just too damn cute (all right… and fun) not to share.
But if you tell anyone that I’m sending you off to games with bunny rabbits I’ll give you a thorough beating. ![]()

If you enjoy all sorts of violence such as firing rocket launchers at people and shooting machine guns, then Phosphor is the game for you.
If you prefer to keep all the mayhem between friends, the game does have a multi-player mode which allows you to play either over a LAN (like at the office) or via the Internet.

We stopped by a friend’s house the other evening, and they had this little electronic toy sitting out. Being the gadget freak I am, I had to ask what the heck it was. Turns out it’s a little 20 Questions game, and it is just freaky accurate!
Believe me, we came up with all kinds of words for it to try, and it produced the correct answer for almost all of them (try “toenail”). I’d recommend picking up one of these little gadgets for $20 from Target to entertain friends and family. It’s a great conversation starter.

This is AWESOME! Mark Caswell-Daniels has developed a little flight sim game which uses Google Maps to allow you to fly all over the place. You can climb, dive, turn and even crash! You also have the option of shooting things on the ground.
Now, what would be GREAT would be if he could turn this into a multiplayer game so that if you see someone else you could have a dogfight online in real time.
By the way, I also started another Web site called GoogleGames.org to catalog all the Google related games out there. Check it out when you get a chance.

Here is a complete and utter time waster! But damn if it isn’t as addictive as the real thing!
The object here is simple. Use your mouse to pop the bubble wrap till your heart’s content! Then, get a fresh sheet and repeat. While you’re at it, don’t forget to try the “manic mode”.
