We Feel Fine

"We Feel Fine" - Emotion Visualizer

We Feel Fine is a computer program that strives to paint a portrait of all the raw human emotion that the Internet contains in its blogs. It was created by Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar in 2005.

What We Feel Fine does:

• Continuously locates sentences with the words “I feel” or “I’m feeling” in them
• Collects these sentences and other information from blog entries and compiles them into a database
• Detects what emotion is being expressed and categorizes it in the database
• Uses the data to create a visualization of millions of people’s emotions worldwide

We Feel Fine creates visual emotions using a Java particle applet. Each particle represents one person’s emotion from one blog at one point in time; different emotions are different colors. Particles containing pictures are square; the rest are circles. A user can click on any particle to read what sentence the person wrote and where they were in the world when they wrote it.

Oh, wait… How would I get the most USE OUT of bootcamp? Hmmm. Personally, I’d use it to make new friends. And perhaps learn how to be a better speaker, because God knows I’m not EVER going to be a stand up comedian! I’m just not that funny…

The most I could do with it? Well, I could video tape every word of it, have them transcribed by underaged $.50 per hour workers in India. Post them to a public blog. Write an e-book about it, then spam 80 million inboxes asking them to download the information. After I get 1 Million downloads I can then publish an actual book and claim to have a book that was read OVER ONE MILLION TIMES! I can then get richer than I already am, and be a famous comedic genius. Bonus!

* What would be the way you would maximize your connections there?

Before I switched to Mac, I used to love to use NetStumbler for Windows. It is a tool that allows you to find any WiFi network and learn a lot about them. This tool even lets you make note of GPS coordinates and do a little thing that people like to call WarDriving. Not that I would know anything about that.

Problem is, there is no NetStumbler for Mac. However! After a lot of searching I came up with a couple of cool alternatives:

• iStumbler – Allows you to find AirPort networks, Bluetooth devices and Bonjour services with your Mac. There is also a desktop widget.
• KisMAC – This is a complete wardriving app. Meaning it is GPS enabled and will map open WiFi hotspots and everything. Here is the latest Mac OS version.

Oh, and if you are still using Windows, Netstumber is too old and stale. Now there is inSSIDer. Go and get it.

I was watching a show on PBS tonight and it was all about the massive Smithsonian Zoo. This is the national Zoo for the US, and they take care of hundreds of species of animals – many of which are endangered and near extinction.

During the show they got to talking about pandas and they mentioned that you can watch the pandas live on the Panda Cam any time you feel like it! They have about 40 different cameras all over the panda habitat, so I figured I would share this little tidbit with you guys.

Folks. I have a confession to make. I’ve been secretly cheating on all of you for some time now. Oh, and to make matters worse, I’m proud of it.

Yes, you already know that a few months ago I joined Layered Technologies as the Chief Marketing Officer… but I’ve got another on the side. And she’s called Woopra. I’ve been secretly working with Elie Khoury and Jad Younan on this project, and we just unveiled it yesterday at WordCamp, making Beta accounts available for the first time for all participants.

What can I tell you about Woopra? She’s hot, smooth, smart, and sexy. But don’t take my word for it… Here is what Cali from GeekBrief had to say after just a few minutes with Woopra.
