I’m pretty sure this is the first time that I’ve ever come out and advocated any sort of add-on, theme or plugin for WordPress that actually costs money. But get ready folks because here comes a game changer!
I heard about a WordPress plugin called Pretty Link Pro from Mitch over at Planet5D (the awesome Canon 5D camera site) and was intrigued enough to check it out. The plugin promised to do a few things that I could hardly believe:
After reading through the user manual, and also seeing that Blair Williams (the plugin author) offered a 30 day money back guarantee, I decided I had absolutely nothing to lose and paid for the plugin on the spot. I’ve just spent the last 12 hours installing, tweaking, testing and using the plugin and I am absolutely in love. I 100% recommend that every WordPress user get this plugin now! And I’ll tell you why…

Thank to Glenda Watson Hyatt (@GlendaWH on Twitter) for sharing a fascinating article by Roger Hudson called Refreshable Braille.
This article has a great deal of significance to me because I’ve been preaching Web Accessibility since the inception of the Internet, having even served on the W3C’s original Web Accessibility Initiative, and having built HTMLHelp.com around educating people about standards compliant Web development.
Heck, I even built the theme for OneMansBlog.com from scratch to try and insure accessibility among other things… But can you believe that in the last decade, I’ve never actually seen real users navigating the Web like this? Wow. It is refreshing to see that people can do it after fighting so hard for so long to build accessible standards.
I believe every person should watch these videos, whether you are a designer or not, to understand the challenges that some visitors face when they come to your Web site. So please take 5 minutes out of your day and give this article a little attention. Thanks!

Jason Falls posted an article over on his blog Social Media Explorer a few days ago posing the question, “What is the ROI for Social Media?”
Jason’s overriding theme was presented early on in the article:
The problem with trying to determine ROI for social media is you are trying to put numeric quantities around human interactions and conversations, which are not quantifiable.
He sat down with Katie Delahaye Paine and had a conversation regarding this topic.

Ok. This is hill-arious. Aaron Phillips, and by that I mean the one behind Another Man’s Blog, just invited every other Aaron Phillips on Facebook to be his friend. When they asked him why they should be his friend, he said:
We have he same name!
Duh.
Aaron is also announcing Aaron Phillips Expo 2010 which will be held in a desert location similar to Burning Man. When I inquired as to the nature of the conference he told me:
I am getting them all into one room and killing them so there is only one Aaron Phillips to rule the world.

Listen up folks, cause I’m only going to say this one time. If you are choosing your site’s theme based on how many ads you can shove in your visitor’s face, or if people come to your site and have to scroll down the page before they see anything other than Google Ads, then your site sucks. And you do too.
Someone stopped by my site and left a comment on the blog with a link to the site in this image. I marked it as spam as soon as I verified the site was MFA. I’ll continue marking MFA sites as spam until the day I die, and I hope that all of my fellow webmasters admin their comments and do likewise.

Lorelle VanFossen gave a fairly short lecture a few weeks ago at WordCamp 2008 in San Francisco entitled 260 Ways to Break WordPress. She didn’t exactly give 260 ways to break WordPress, but she certainly told a story about how Liz Strauss managed this feat! And she makes some good points about how we all manage to break things.
During the discussion she covers top WordPress plugins and themes, some WordPress annoyances, ways to help foster a community on your site, and much more as only Lorelle can. Enjoy!

I had some videos I needed to upload in Vegas, but The Mirage’s WiFi was so slow I was getting 30 – 40kb uploads and ocassional dropped connections. When I got to the airport to head home I fired up the WiFi on my iPhone and ran a speed test. Unbelievably, I got 2mb upload speeds!
So, I whipped out my laptop and proceeded to upload a 1.3gb file to Viddler in about 30 minutes at a sustained average rate of 650kb. You can see the results of the test and upload below.
Many thanks to the folks at McCarran who make this possible. If only everyone was as cool as you!

Since I got an iPhone I’ve been dying to test it’s abilities as a remote blogging tool. Well, here is the first test!
At this very moment I’m at On the Border in Plano, TX pigging out on fajitas. Here’s a snapshot to make you hungry!

Alan Levine gave the opening presentation at WordCamp 2008 in San Francisco entitled “It’s All You Can WordPress at the EduBlog Diner”. Luckily for all of us, he’s also put together an amazing blog post to accompany his presentation, complete with links to the many, many Web sites he referenced. (Just like an educator to be thorough, huh?)
Since the film doesn’t capture all of the slides as Alan goes through them, you can check out his flicker set of the presentation and follow along as he presents. At some point in the future if I get time I’ll try and pull them back into the presentation.

SEO consultant Stephan Spencer gave a fantastic lecture at WordCamp in San Francisco on Search Engine Optimization and, more specifically, the mistakes most bloggers make. (Maybe if I’m lucky Stephan will help me with OMB and Woopra!)
As founder of NetConcepts, a top Search Engine Marketing firm, Stephan is one of the leading experts in the field and he managed to pack more tips into this 30 minute segment than I could have imagined.

Folks, I just got a very limited number of Blog World discounts to offer to you, so if you’re planning on going now is the time to register. Keep in mind that this is basically the blogging event of the year, so if you could only pick one – this would be it! Here are the deets:
I hope to see lots of you guys there! And don’t forget that Elie and Jad from Woopra are going to be at the Woopra booth with me, along with the Queen of Blogging herself Lorelle Van Fossen. And we’ll be handing out free Woopra T-shirts!

There seems to be a proliferation of bloggers following my lead. First there was AnotherMansBlog.com, and now there is YetAnotherMansBlog.com! What’s next? StillAnotherMansBlog.com? Why not OneWomansBlog.com? And where is OneDogsBlog.com?
By the way, those blogs are probably better than mine. So you should read them too.
PS – Did you see that Another Man quit blogging? You guys better go and prod him…
