Hi kids. Today’s art lesson comes in the form of England’s most popular and well known graffiti artist. How popular is he? Well, two men were actually convicted in a UK court for defacing one of his works. That’s right. He tagged a building, they covered it up, and they went to jail!

Banksy is no street thug. He is a serious artist that happens to have an addiction to spray painting his art in public places. His art features striking and humorous images occasionally combined with slogans. The message is usually anti-war, anti-capitalist, anti-establishment or pro-freedom.

I’m not exactly sure how to describe this work, so I’ve decided to call it perpetually destructive performance painting.

Essentially a group of artists start with a canvas of some sort and begin painting and repainting it while a stop motion camera makes a video record of the process.

It allows art lovers to view the entire creative process in a very short time and also demonstrates the skill and imagination of the artists involved.

I wouldn’t say that this artist’s style particularly appeals to me, but I will say that the level of talent and creativity involved do.

In 10 minutes Janez Jevnikar can take a piece of canvas and create a unique piece of artwork that is pretty darn interesting. There is a great level of skill here and a lot of practice as well.
