Folks, a few weeks ago I went to the doctor to get a physical. Nothing special whatsoever. Just a routine annual physical. It was a two part visit. The first time I went they took blood to run the normal tests (I’m healthy). Then I went a few days later to see the doctor and get checked out.
So, I leave the office and a couple weeks later I get some paperwork from my insurance company informing me that the doctor has billed them $2,550.00 for the visit, and they were paying $2,046.00 after the healthplan discount. What the FXXK?!?

Sure there are 42 million Americans without health insurance. But that’s not such a problem! After all, those people can still get some health care anyway, right?
This little cartoon is pretty funny.

Ok. I’m not ready to start thinking about Social Security just yet, but my parents are. So I attended an education seminar put on by my financial advisers which included a presentation by Tom Clark from the Social Security Administration.
The following are the Cliff Notes from Tom’s very informative lecture.

Let’s say you’re going out of the country to some strange place where you know you’d have a hard time getting emergency medical treatment. What’s a guy (or gal) to do? Get some specialty insurance of course!
MedjetAssist, of Birmingham, AL, is a company that specializes in medical evacuations and they let you choose which hospital will be your final destination. One year of individual coverage is $250 for an individual or $385 for an entire family. That’s pretty cheap compared with the cost of an emergency helicopter and airfair out of Botswana!
Oh yeah, and they have a great tagline, “Take trips. Not chances.” So true…
