If you ever get a chance to spend some time in Minneapolis (hopefully not during the cold, cold winter) you owe it to yourself to go downtown to the Riverfront District and check out the sites in and around the old Mill City Museum. (Hours and Directions.)

The name Minneapolis is actually derived from “mni”, the Dakota word for water, and “polis”, the Greek word for city. Minneapolis is nicknamed the “City of Lakes” and the “Mill City” – hence the necessity of seeing the historic riverfront area.

Thanks to Peggy for sending me this video of a stunt pulled off by Improv Everywhere, whose slogan is “we cause scenes”. The setup is that 207 people all walking through Grand Central Station in New York all freeze in place at the exact same second, and hold still for a full 5 minutes.

Most interestingly, it’s inspired people in 28 other cities in 13 countries to stage their own freeze mission. Thousands people worldwide in places like Romania, Poland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and New Zealand have come together to make time stop for five short minutes. Ok folks, this might seem a little mundane, but it was actually totally cool. In Minneapolis, MN there is a two story Target and they have solved the problem of taking carts from floor to floor by building a special cart escalator. We’ll call it a cartalator!

So, I was really looking forward to my trip to this Target specifically so I could take some photos and video of this thing to put on the blog here, and as soon a I walked in the door the monkey in the guard outfit made me put my camera away! Told me it was Target corporate policy not to allow photography in any store.

Well, do you think that was going to stop me, dear readers? I didn’t think so.
