One Mans Blog

Specialization is for Insects.

Monica Bellucci, Hot Italian ChickWow! This is incredible! In Italy you’ve got a license to lie and cheat in a relationship all you want! Why? Because having an extra-marital affair is wrong, and it would damage your ‘honor’, so clearly it should be lied about if you do it!

Hmmm. Let’s see… So if I murder, rape and pillage, those things must damage my honor as well. So it won’t be long before it’s legal to lie about that too! Pretty soon all of Italy will be lying their asses off - but at least they’ll all be honorable!

Welcome to the Recession

Dow Jones SlumpFolks, I’m going to go ahead and call it, even though no one else seems to be willing to do so. We’re officially in a recession.

The National Bureau of Economic Research defines a recession as:

A recession is a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales.

Let’s take a look at some of the leading indicators, shall we?

Blackberry CurveI just had to give up my Sprint powered PPC8800 for a Blackberry Curve 8310 so I could be on the communal rate plan and also have real-time Exchange access for e-mail at work. After doing so it forced me to do a lot of research on applications and ways to better my Curve.

I figured some other people are going to go looking for this info as well, so I’ve compiled what I learned here. Its not my most organized post, but there is a lot of information and I didn’t want to spend forever getting the post out. Hopefully if anyone knows of other cool, free stuff for the BB you’ll drop a comment below and let me know.

Twins Invent Wedgie-Proof Underwear

Wedgie Proof Underwear DemonstrationI’m guessing that 8 year old twins Justin and Jared Serovitch must have been picked on a lot, because necessity is the mother of invention, and these kids invented the wedgie-proof underwear!

The good folks over at Fox News, being the quality journalists they are, did an interview with the twins to discuss the impetus for the creation of said underwear, and also to have the twins demonstrate the actual use.

Watch and learn…

Bobby Fischer is Dead - Good Riddance!

Bobby FischerThanks to Jason for pointing out that Bobby Fischer, the Chess Master, is now dead.

I feel the same way about Bobby Fischer as I do about Charles Manson. These are two people whose views of the world are sickeningly twisted to the point that the only conclusion I can make is that mental illness is involved in both cases.

Bobby lived his whole life for only two purposes, to play a game, and to be the poster child for antisemitism. His flagrant disregard for laws and authority caused him to blame the U.S. Government or the Jews for everything that ever happened to him. Even in death he laid blame at the feet of the Japanese and Icelandic governments. If you ask me, Fischer was a media whore and he probably just broke the law everywhere he went in order to stay in the limelight.

YouTube Went Down!

YouTube is DownFolks, I don’t know how something like this could happen, but I’m telling you - YouTube was completely off-line this morning around 9:30am here in Texas. and when I say off-line, I mean entirely.

I noticed it when someone at the office complained that a video wasn’t loading in the blog. Then we tried to go to their homepage, and… nothing. Nothing but an HTTP error at least. We tried on multiple computers too, but it doesn’t really matter because this is the type of error that only the Web servers spit out.

I’m guessing that most people would have missed this outage, but I wonder if anyone else did indeed notice it? It just goes to prove that even the big boys can go down sometimes. Still, it makes me wonder what switch could have been thrown to take down the entire site and all of the videos at once.

Star Wars Missile Defense is Now a Reality

Star Wars ICBMRemember way back with Reagan was talking about building “Star Wars”, the missile defense system to protect the US from Soviet nuclear attack? Well, guess what. It lives.

That’s right, we can now take down missiles before they ever get near posing a threat to the continental US. So, it makes me wonder if we could deploy these against a fleet of inbound aircraft as well? I mean, does this mean that the US is now invulnerable against any sort of air attack?

The Greatest TV Bloopers… Ever.

TV BloopersThe other day I was watching the local news and I saw a reporter have a funny little blooper that sidetracked them. I wasn’t recording it or anything, but I later checked YouTube to see if anyone else got it so I could share it. Well, I couldn’t find that one, but boy did I hit the motherload!

So, here are the best news bloopers clips I could find (at least half an hours worth of entertainment). Get some Kleenex, because I was laughing so hard I cried on some of these.

Chinese PollutionSixteen of the world’s 20 most polluted cities are in China, according to World Bank research. Yet a report sponsored by the Chinese Government which uncovered potentially scary information was edited to “prevent social unrest”.

Missing from this report are the research project’s findings that high air-pollution levels in Chinese cities is leading to the premature deaths of 350,000-400,000 people each year. A further 300,000 people die prematurely each year from exposure to poor air indoors, according to advisers, but little discussion of this issue survived in the report because it was outside the ambit of the Chinese ministries which sponsored the research.

Another 60,000-odd premature deaths were attributable to poor-quality water, largely in the countryside, from severe diarrhea, and stomach, liver and bladder cancers.

The mortality information was “reluctantly” excised by the World Bank from the published report, according to advisers to the research project.

Sepa and the health ministry declined to comment. The World Bank said that the findings of the report were still being discussed with the government.

Stephen Colbert is Gonna LOVE this Kid!

Davy Crockett’s Great Grandson Kills a BearHey, did you hear about the 5 year old kid who killed a 400 pound bear? Well, now you have… and oh yeah, he’s a descendant of Davy Crockett. Figures.

DEWITT, Ark. — A 5-year-old Arkansas County boy killed a black bear Sunday weighing more than 400 pounds.

Tre Merritt, a descendant of Davy Crockett, was hunting with his grandfather Mike Merritt when a black bear happened upon their stand.

“His 10th great-grandfather was Davy Crockett,” Mike Merritt said. “And Davy supposedly killed him a bear when he was three. And Tre is five and really killed a bear. I really doubt if Davy killed one when he was three.”

Kasparov ArrestedMother Russia is hurting. And Garry Kasparov is taking the brunt of it.

On Saturday 11/24 while leading a peaceful march he was taken into custody, beaten, and jailed for 5 days. This is nothing new for Kasparov. Back in April he was beaten and arrested during a protest as well. The notable thing about that rally was that it was co-organized by Putin’s own former prime minister Mikhail M. Kasyanov.
