Occasionally I, or someone I know, need to run a test on my Internet connection to see what kind of bandwidth I’m getting. Rather than having to sift through bookmarks for the links I figured I’d share them here.
If you ever need (want) to test your connection just do a quick search on One Man’s Blog for “Speed Test” and you should find this page nice and quick like. All of the tests here will show the results of both upload and download speeds.
Some of the better tests will also show latency and other statistics as well as comparative data.
Have fun!

This is truly a fantastic video. Set in 1976 Paris, this has to be one of the most irresponsible, flagrant and illegal events in car driving history… and also absolutely one of the coolest!
The driver recklessly speeds around Paris one early morning for almost 9 minutes prompting Ralph Martin, of GQ Magazine, to say
“The car runs sixteen red lights, crosses the median to avoid a bus, nearly plows into a few pedestrians and more than a few pigeons, and drives around a garbage truck on the sidewalk before pulling up in front of Sacre Coeur, with its picture-perfect view of Paris spread out at sunrise. Then, in a sentimental touch, the driver gets out to meet his lady, his rendezvous.”

This is a 5 minute video put together by a group of young people calling themselves “the five year plan”. In it, they demonstrates what happens when a group of drivers decide to strictly obey the posted speed limit on a major US highway.
Interesting stuff, and it’s all absolutely real…

I’ve seen a few speed testing Web sites in my day, but this new one from SpeedTest.net takes the cake!
This site is totally awesome! Everything from the animation to the test results are very clear and easy to understand. Select the image above to see my personal results which range from a download high speed of over 11.4 Mbps (to Dallas) to a low of just over 4.3 Mbps (to London).
