Cali Lewis’ Top 10 Must Have Survival Gear List

Here’s a fun one folks! Cali teamed up with the Discovery channel’s The Colony experiment and put together this Top 10 list of survival necessities. If you find that the world is coming to an end, you might just want to have these items on hand.

My favorite is number 5! Let me know what you think. ;-) By the way, you can head over to Cali’s blog for the show notes including links to all the goodies in the list.

A Brief History of Pretty Much Everything Flipbook Animation

This is a very cool little video animation that someone created. I can’t imagine how long it took to draw every page of this flipbook, but if you ask me without YouTube it wouldn’t have been worth it! Actually I can imagine what it took because the author said…

It’s something like 2100 pages long, and about 50 jotter books. I’d say I worked on and off it for roughly 3 weeks.

Anyway, here is “A Brief History of Pretty Much Everything”. Not quite as detailed as Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part I, but it’ll do. ;-)

The New Robin Hood Movie (2010) Trailer and Photos

Robin Hood
The new Robin Hood movie is due out on May 14, 2010, and I can’t wait to see it! Looks like it’s going to be full of lots of action, death and fire – so it’s going to be my kind of movie! Here is the short description of the movie in case you’ve been living under a rock for like the last 50 years:

Robin Hood chronicles the life of an expert archer, previously interested only in self-preservation, from his service in King Richards army against the French. Upon Richards death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff and crippling taxation, where he falls for the spirited widow Lady Marion, a woman skeptical of the identity and motivations of this crusader from the forest.

Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marion and salvage the village, Robin assembles a gang whose lethal mercenary skills are matched only by its appetite for life. Together, they begin preying on the indulgent upper class to correct injustices under the sheriff.

OXI Day: How the Greeks Helped End World War II

Greece Fights OnToday, October 28, marks the anniversary of one of the most important days in the history of the world, yet few people remember it’s significance. But the Greeks do, and they celebrate OXI day, every year.

The day was October 28, 1940. At dawn that morning (4:00am), after a party in the German embassy in Athens, Mussolini (through Emanuele Grazzi, the Italian ambassador in Greece) issued an ultimatum to Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas to surrender, or face open war with Italy.

Metaxas, a career military officer and more importantly a proud Greek, was not inclined to acquiesce to Mussolini’s demands (surprise!), thus touching off the beginning of the Greco-Italian War and a series of unbelievable events that would eventually neutralize Italy, cripple Germany, and cost 1,000,000 Greek lives.

From the Sand Pit – Message From a Recon Marine in Afghanistan

Marine in AfghanistanWow! I’m not sure if the letter below is legitimate or fabricated. It sounds like it could be from a real Marine, and so I’m going to publish it just in case. Either way, it gives you a lot to think about…

It’s freezing here. I’m sitting on hard, cold dirt between rocks and shrubs at the base of the Hindu Kush Mountains along the Dar ‘yoi Pomir River watching a hole that leads to a tunnel that leads to a cave. Stake out, my friend, and no pizza delivery for thousands of miles.

I also glance at the area around my ass every ten to fifteen seconds to avoid another scorpion sting. I’ve actually given up battling the chiggers and sand fleas, but them scorpions give a jolt like a cattle prod. Hurts like a bastard. The antidote tastes like transmission fluid but God bless the Marine Corps for the five vials of it in my pack.

19 by Paul Hardcastle

Soldier in Vietnam[The average U.S. serviceman in the Vietnam War was supposedly twenty-two years old, and not nineteen as is often believed, particularly given the popularity of a pop song called 19 by Paul Hardcastle.

I came across this song the other day, and it reminded me of just how cool it is all over again, so I thought I'd share it. The song that is... not the war.

The Muslims Are Coming! The Muslims Are Coming!

Paul BelienWow, this article got e-mailed to me and it’s so racy I just had to share it and see what kind of comments we’re going to get. This article has it all: War, bigotry, hatred, death… kind of reminds me of The Princess Bride, but without the “kissy” parts.

My favorite part of this rant:

Consider that, in all of Europe, no one under the age of 65 has picked up arms in defense of their country. That task has been borne by the United States since Hitler surrendered in 1945.

Originally published in The Brussels Journal, billed as “The voice of conservatism in Europe” (yeah, right), this article was written by Paul Belien a fairly radical thinking lawyer/PHd and journalist. Oh and he is the director of Islamist Watch, a project which combats the ideas and institutions of Islam in the United States and other Western countries. So I wouldn’t exactly call him an unbiased bystander.

The premise of the article is basically that Muslims are taking over Europe, and Europeans are too weak to do anything about it. So unless you want to die or submit you need to move the heck out! [Read more...]

Star Wars Missile Defense is Now a Reality

Star Wars ICBMRemember way back with Reagan was talking about building “Star Wars”, the missile defense system to protect the US from Soviet nuclear attack? Well, guess what. It lives.

That’s right, we can now take down missiles before they ever get near posing a threat to the continental US. So, it makes me wonder if we could deploy these against a fleet of inbound aircraft as well? I mean, does this mean that the US is now invulnerable against any sort of air attack?
