You Only THINK its Cold Outside

IcebergOk. It’s the middle of winter, and we’re all sitting around complaining about how cold it is outside. But before you continue your whining, watch this video! This video taken in Fairbanks, Alaska (on the UAF campus) shows a pan of boiling water being thrown into the air in -45 degree weather.

The water evaporates almost instantly, and this has to be one of the coolest things you could possibly do in this kind of weather.

Water Powered Digital Clock

Digital ClockOk. I’m man enough to admit it. I’ve got no idea how this works…

Select Solar (over in the UK) is selling a desk clock that apparently uses nothing but water to power the digital readout. You fill a couple of tubes with tap water and then it just works for about two months.

If anyone can explain the principles in use here, please do so as the site doesn’t say exactly how this is accomplished.

Atmospheric Water Extraction

A company called Aqua Sciences was recently put on the Time Best Inventions list for it’s portable water extraction systems. These systems can be deployed to areas affected by disaster to ensure adequate clean water supplies.

The 20-foot machine can churn out 600 gallons of water a day without using or producing toxic materials and byproducts. They also have larger units that can pump out 1200 gallons a day.
