A couple of weeks ago I commented on the plight of blind activist Chen Guang-cheng who had been jailed prior to trial for basically speaking out against illegal activities of local government officials.
Well, now he’s been officially convicted after a two hour long trial to over 4 years in prison for “organizing a mob to disturb traffic.”
As if this guy’s life didn’t suck enough already… He lost his eyesight as a child due to illness, which later caused him to be excluded from admission to college because, of course, the Chinese don’t allow blind people to attend college.
And why would you really? I mean name just one blind person that ever went on to make something of them self! Well, except for maybe Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Homer, John Milton, Hellen Keller, Louis Braille, Frederick Delius, Stevie Wonder, Jose Luis Borges, or Ray Charles. (I’m laying on the sarcasm pretty thick here… you getting all that?)
Anyway, this just goes to prove my point once again that “Germans Love David Hasselhoff”… er, no, the other point that “there is no freedom in China.”
