Wireless Showercam and other Ethically Challenged Devices

John P.

November 15, 2006 By John P.

ShowercamIf there weren’t enough things to be paranoid about already, manufacturers continue to release more and more “ethically challenged” pieces of surveillance equipment.

The latest is a Shower Mirror Radio wireless camera. It uses a two-way mirror and broadcasts wirelessly in full color to the pervert next door.

SpyclockIf that’s not enough of an invasion of privacy for you, if you check into a hotel room with one of these neat high-tech clocks you might just consider pointing it away from all the action. It too conceals a camera, but in some ways this is more dangerous than the shower cam. That’s because the clock uses the power lines to send images to a computer.

Digital Camera BinocularsEDIT: Oh, I almost forgot to mention that you can also now get Binoculars with built in 5 MP cameras, so the crepe across the street can snap photos through those cheap blinds you got at target. You can get them at Gadget Universe.

Wireless transmission devices (bugs) can be detected using a simple wireless video camera detector. If you follow that Google search link you’ll see they range in price from very affordable up to several hundred dollars.

The problem with the power line transmitters is that they cannot be detected this way since they give off no wireless signals. For those you’ll need a device like this hardwired video detector.

Finally, to protect yourself from the prying eyes of the digicam binoculars, you’ll need to seal yourself inside a hermetically sealed chamber. One that is opaque.

You’ll find a wide range of counter-surveillance equipment at CrimeBusters911.com, Brickhouse Security, and SpyGadgets.com.
