Ever wished you could become a touch typist rather than hunting and pecking at the keyboard? Or, curious how fast you actually are? Well, have I got a few options for you!
From freeware to a full blown touch typing Web application, if it ain’t here it just doesn’t exist.
Freeware First!
Bruce’s Unusual Typing Wizard is Windows based freeware which offers typing instruction, practice sessions and a typing game.
I didn’t go through the instruction because, well… I’m already a touch typist so it would be a little boring. But I did do the practice session and it was actually pretty useful. Here you can see that with no warm-up I’m going about 75 words per minute. (I’m glad they made me take typing in Jr. High school…)
The game is actually more interesting to me than the straight practice session. It gives you practice without it feeling like typing practice. In the style of Tetris, letters come falling from the top of the screen. Your job is simply to type each letter in order as it falls. As the game progresses the speed increases.
If you are looking for a similar free typing tutor program for Linux (shouldn’t that also work under Mac OSX?) you can try KTouch.
One Man’s Online Instruction!
To get started just select a lesson from the dropdown menu and begin typing. Your fingers should begin on the yellow keys (left hand A S D F, right hand J K L).

And finally, there is a list of other typing freeware here.
thanks for the effort – saved me heaps of time !!!
