2. This list of people with high intelligence is pathetic. It is likely that most people with extremely high intelligence don’t live very long, are unsuccessful financially and are unknown. Take it from someone who scored 190 on an IQ test at age 7, being gifted sucks! If you are female, it doubly sucks!
   You may hate me for saying this but it’s true. I feel like Tarzan because the general public seem like apes to me. I care about people and want them to be happy but to be honest I can’t stand being around them for long.
   When a person has an IQ of 190 even a genius seems retarded. It’s like living in solitary confinement your whole life so don’t blame them for being WHACKO by the time they are adults.

      You don’t need an outrageous IQ for the behavior of others to appear ape-like. You just need to be an outside observer with a touch of cynicism flavoring your thoughts. Watching people, noting their ridiculous behavior and their interests, questioning their reasoning to myself, I’ve become something of a recluse.

      Earlier today, I was reading about Blaise Pascal. I read that he, upon being deprived of mathematical resources, recreated some of Euclid’s geometric theories in his early adolescence. I damn cried a little, considering that nobody I knew could hold a candle to that. Knowing that nobody I knew would even care to try. So many people are damn near being apes, not necessarily because they’re stupid, but because they don’t care to be smart. Most don’t give enough of a damn to try flexing their intellect, much less exercise it.

4. The “narcissistic guy” not only has a fairly modest IQ but he also has some atrocious attempts at coherent writing. For example:
   “From time to time, I see people who appear to be IQ’s around 67, but its hard to tell, if its 67 or 133, as the opposites at either end of the spectrum, can fool you.”
   First, why use all those commas? Second, if they are at either end of the spectrum, you should quite easily be able to tell the difference. Third, nobody appears to be IQ’s; they have IQ’s but they aren’t IQ’s themselves. Fourth, how do they appear to have a particular IQ? Does he guess? If so, then how is he fooled by his own perception?
   What an idiot.

Everyone here including I should score much higher with all the worlds information at our finger tips. Joke really, dead people 200 years ago scored better than you all, me too. 14. I scored a 168. Easy test but firmly think that the system is not setup right. The alleged IQ’s of dead people is outrageous, funny really. Each generation by right and access to new and more solid information should by far be more intelligent than the last. Think about it. Guy scores a 122, great, however it’s low and dumb. With the information that you have at your fingertips, you should do better. We all should. You think G. Washington had a computer with the worlds information compiled on it. No. People are getting dumber and lazier. I did this test a year ago, one a year, and each year I have averaged seven points higher than the last time, even though it is different. So get off the couch, put down the pipes or beer and learn something, be smarter than the computer. You guys crack me up, my score is off the charts for the I.Q test formula as it stands. 15. I remember being 14 taking these exams and scoring in the 125 range. Now i’m 20 and my scores are always at least 130 to 140. I guess chemical engineering made me a little bit smarter, but to be honest i’m really not surprised I feel like pulling all nighters learning entire chapters of physics in one night, as well as all the other crazy challenging math/chemistry/engineering classes really increased my capacity to learn. I even feel my reading speed has increased significantly since I was younger.

16. I believe this “test” to be very inaccurate. I took this test and scored an 85…I comprehended each pattern correctly and chose the corresponding “next in order”, yet I only scored a meager 85. Unless I mistook the instructions (or lack thereof) I don’t see how I could have obtained a score as low as that, especialy when I consider that a phsychiatrist issued me a state-approved IQ test to see how high my IQ was at age 15 and I scored a 193. I am now 18 and I am almost positive that my IQ has only gone up in the past 3 years, if not stayed the same. This site is a hoax like all the other “online IQ tests” out there.

    1. Agreed. I got a 147 on the Weschler test a few years ago and the test gave me a 105. Maybe it’s just me being sore about my score, but I can’t help but feel that it’s not entirely accurate.

18. WOW. I did a test on another site and i scored 150! I’m suprised considering i’m only 15 years old. I believe I scored near perfect and according to the information on this site (assuming its accurate) i have a genIus IQ. I also attemped a few other test and my scores were very similar (approx 149, 151, 152 and 148. so i’m sitting at 150).

          2.) Even without taking into account the correlation between IQ and spelling and grammar ability, so far as I know, genius does not protect against typing mistakes.

25. hehe. I agree with this article so much right now. IQ should be a threshold, not anything else. And if you’re doing a Mcdonald’s job, suffice to say a 180 iq won’t get you extremely far. A good iq to have should be 120+, with that you can get through university without much trouble, having excess iq is a bit like having extra lego pieces, you can certainly build more and better things, but really, it’s more about how you use the pieces. And if you have less pieces, you won’t be tempted to leave them lying all over the floor until you f*cking step on one.
    okay, that metaphor was bad, my point still stands. I’ve always had a high iq, this is especially obvious in linguistics (I’m bragging…sorry I’ll stop) since I could read the chinese newspaper when I was three (AUGH STOP IT)

26. My IQ was 122 (using the standard deviation 15). It’s odd, as I felt the test was easy although I felt myself slowing down considerably towards the end. I’d very much like to see the “correct awnsers” and read behind their logic. Still, my apparently very superiority with intelligence doesn’t make me any happier even if I was egotistical: as I’d be comparing myself to the majority, who have been proven time and time again to be dumb. Persides, IQ is arbitrary like this comment.

    The second time i got 112 points. I guess that is my real score. (But i made it after the first one and at only 4 questions i asked my self why i made this stupid mistakes)

28. I took that test a while back. I tried my best (using up all the time) and only managed a 115. For someone in the middle class, that puts me into “slow” territory. Compared to my friends, I am indeed several notches slower when it comes to learning new concepts. :(

31. It is well known by now that Sharon Stone does not have a 154 IQ. She’s finally being honest about this lie. Infact, Mensa has finally spoken out about her alleged membership in the society by saying they are glad she’s finally given up the rouse. Also, Gary Kasparov nowhere near has that high of an IQ. This has been disputed by Der Spiegel, the famous German magazine. About 15 years ago, they went through great lengths in testing Kasparov’s IQ score with several international psychologists. They measured his IQ around 135. I still don’t know where they get James Woods IQ. If they are using the old SAT score / IQ correlation, then he should be atleast 160 and not 180. Besides, there isn’t a definitive IQ correlation to pre-1974 SAT scores. And even Dolph Lundgren has come out to say his IQ is definitely not nearly as high as all these websites purport it to be.

32. I was in pre primary school going to primary school and the teachers thought there was something wrong with me. They had a problem that i couldn’t make up my mind weather i was left handed or right handed. I Don’t know if that has anything to do with your intelligence. But they wanted to take me to someone that tests children. As a little boy i thought that there was really something wrong with me. It turned out to be an IQ test and my score was very high, I’m not going to blabber it out and brag. I’m just saying that this websites are inaccurate. And the people who think that grammar and spelling has to do with intelligence are making a mistake. My home language is Afrikaans, and I’m from South Africa.

In my personal opinion I think that skills and intelligence differ from each person in different fields, for example, that some people are good with music and bad in other things other people are very good in. I was embarrassed with myself when i took this particular test lol. People cant determine their IQ on a website you find on the internet because all the test are different. You need someone that will be able to determine in witch field you are good in.

For the folks that scored 133 and 160 are you PHD’s or scientists etc. What got me to looking this up is a coworker claimed he came from a family of geniuses and everyone in his family scored over 200 with his sister scoring 250 and I had to call B. S. on him and he was mad and pouted the rest of the day. I asked him to take this one and watched from behind and he scored a 72 and then tried to tell me he scored a 190. so I have found in my own experience that many tend to lie about their scores. You are only lying to yourself. No one really cares anyway. Your experience in life is what counts the most and people that are geniuses show in their actions not their words. So don’t brag on a score, let your actions speak for you.

I am unwilling to take this test because, sadly, my IQ means too much to me to risk, however I am willing to take advantage of the anonymous nature of the internet to a degree, (I have written this on Word in order to use spell check, it is telling that so many are like me, an example of hardwiring trumping logic within human nature) so: My IQ is unusual in that it is heavily varied. I am profoundly dyslexic; my ability for reading and spelling corresponds to those of an intelligence seen within the bottom 4% of the British population, where the mean IQ is 100. My verbal reasoning, irritatingly and unnecessarily intertwined with one’s spelling and reading ability in any practical sense throughout the British education system, represents the top 0.04% of the population. Other aspects of my cognitive ability are also varied but less atypical, though still complementary, and, some of which, complementary, in the other sense of the word, to my verbal reasoning. This has done little for me; I have never excelled in school and consistently disappoint my father, an Oxford academic, and, as I am often reminded, do little justice to my mother, who was also an Oxford academic. The knowledge of my high IQ has only made me feel guilty, the only way to validate my failures to myself becomes not to try, yet this leads to further frustration about my situation and a cycle has formed.     1. Completely sympathize. I have ADHD. And a high IQ score, but really my belief in an IQ score as a method for testing intelligence is not exactly strong haha. When I was 12 I scored 145 according to a mensa test, I now score around 123 HAHAHA , my mother has an IQ of 143, but is hopeless at math. I would like to say that richard feynman, a man I greatly respect, is only 125.

       Also, based upon my current IQ relative to my previous score, I should be much “smarter” than when I was twelve, providing my memory is a good judge of relative intelligences, this is NOT the case, at 17 I am much more intelligent than previously.

39. IQ is kind of an interesting idea with a sordid past. Alfred Binet originally developed the IQ test to predict academic achievement (exclusively). But it was co-opted by the eugenics movement (started by Charles Darwin’s cousin Francis Gaulton). People were put to death IN AMERICA for having a low IQ! Spearman posited the ‘g’ or general intelligence construct which IQ is supposed to be a measure of. Interestingly, IQ is correlated with a number of other attributes that are generally desirable such as good looks, but also positively correlated with some negative things such an anxiety. Bottom line, IQ seems to be a good measure of having attributes that we both admire and _promote_ in our western culture, but it falls short when you start using it for cross-cultural comparisons of people’s intelligence.

46. i’m in africa, Ghana, i hear the test varies in accuracy depending on the country you are from or live in. (whatever). i’ve taken three different tests, and i can assure you none of them were meant for Ghanaians, so what does it mean when i get 132 as my lowest test score and 173 as my highest.
    (i got my highest score the second time)the other score was 140.
    maybe if o take one meant for Ghanaians, or if i ever lived in the states i’ll also be of the charts

47. no one got a 199 or 165… if you do the test the highest you can get is “above end 160″ with a standard deviation of 24.
    and also once you hit around 15 your not going to increase your iq score by very much. iq cannot be increased by reading or studying, its all about relationships and fluid intelligence. the only thing you can really work on is concentrating better…

But even if I was, he was not the man we know today because of his iq. He is the first leader of our country because he fought for his beliefs, was true to his cause and hard working. He also had great confidence, which is why people had no problem putting their trust in him in their time of need. If you do not have an iq of 180 it does not mean that you cannot change the world, it simply means you had to work harder to get to the point where you can change the world, and will end up being a greater leader (because of character and experience) than someone who rides through life on the coattails of a lucky break.

48. There are several comments eluding to the fact that intelligence, as a whole, is learned and therefore not measurable. I find myself able to agree with this line of reasoning simply because it makes the most sense.

    Behavior is also learned! It is possible that most of the behavior exhibited on this very site is simply the collective wish of everyone wanting to be a part of something. An elite group of folks, a special cult, a team.
    Through challenges in life we learn to either rise above or fall below. We can either be susceptible to life’s vices like addiction, or we can overpower those thoughts with our “Knowledge”!

    It is unfair then to assume that spatial reasoning, or memorization alone could contribute to any real understanding of a persons ability. If intelligence is the only factor to consider than what use is wisdom, fear, hate, love, etc?

    The human mind is far too complex to measure. Any real measurable intellect would reside in the sub-conscious mind anyway. The sub-conscious is ultimately responsible for our own interpretation of self right? And if that is also true than what relevance do tests like the one above, or any other for that matter, have in reality?

Anyway, in regards to the above, regardless of how one maintains a higher level of cognitive awareness, whether by exercizing the brains memory, or just plain using it for more than something to fill the void between the ears, its ok to strive to be a better learner. That is what we all are, at least we should try to be good learners. Ive always wondered if it was really true that Einstein believed in God, sometimes I think he wanted people to see how precious life is and be in awe of the odds of our own existence.

50. I think the suggestion made several years ago — that someone at one of the High IQ societies explain things in language ordinary people can understand — is a good one.     One thing I notice about intelligence. In South Korea, people with the highest test scores get jobs with the government (they served the king in past centuries). One notable result in comparing Korea to the US is that government offices run very smoothly, things get done well and quickly, and almost no one complains about incompetence. In America, intelligence is not considered necessary to work for the government — political connections are more important. More’s the pity.

Be the main reason for electability, there are much more important traits like honesty, along with integrity and all other fine attributes that should be held in the highest regard by those who we have given power to. 54. For those mentioning William James Sidis, take note: His IQ was estimated, without ever having actually taken a test. His intelligence level is untested, and any info on it is almost mythical, we may have had an IQ lower than 200, or higher, we don’t know.

    Sidis’s IQ is estimated by people who have never actually tested his IQ. Leaving him off the list is justified in my opinion. In my opinion, half the list should be removed, because they’re just estimates, I doubt Mozart ever took an IQ test, so any statement of his IQ is by admirers who would rate him high or low based on how much they admire him, not on what it actually is! Sidis is a good example of fanboy rating. He never did any groundbreaking research, he isn’t even the youngest to graduate from university. His intelligence is estimated by people who knew him personally and admired him, and would likely overestimate his IQ (they don’t know what his IQ actually is, because they never tested him). It’s like Tesla, for example. In history, you will rarely ever find another genius at his level… but his IQ was never tested. So we will never know! Even if Sidis and Tesla were tested, at best the test would show an IQ of 200. Why? Read below.

    Further note: Once your IQ is measured at 200, your IQ is actually no longer measurable. Why? Because once you score 200 on any IQ test, you’ve maxed the test out. Sho Yano for example measured at 200 on an IQ test, but because that’s actually the default number for a perfect score, his IQ might actually be 10000000 and no one would know! (of course no one has that sort of IQ, it’s just an outlandish example) That’s all there is! Once you hit 200, you don’t know who is smarter than who anymore. You can only go on their achievements I guess at that point, or wait until someone designs a test that can measure higher than 200. But let me tell you something, most people who design these tests don’t have IQs of 200, so don’t count on them being able to create questions that people with IQ’s of 200 would get wrong consistently.

55. IQ tests are useless. They promote answering questions that have no applicability to the real world or anything relating to the real world. The IQ test only provides boosted self-esteem for people who generally don’t need it. If you are legitimately smart, then apply your intelligence to something more relevant than being a number on various websites around the internet. Obviously with a struggling economy and society, your genius is required… if you truly are a genius. Personally I choose to pursue education instead of sharing some “intelligence level” with as many people as possible.

56. The IQ test on this page only measures abstract pattern reasoning. Not overall intelligence. Just a narrow aspect of intelligence. One tiny part. Such a quiz is useless at giving a full view of the intellect. Not comprehensive at all. It completely misses the deeper reaching faculties.

    A person without an understanding of pattern recognition may not do well on this test. But such a person may be extremely intelligent. A literature professor, for instance, may do badly on this test. But that does not mean that a literature professor is unintelligent. Such a professor would simply be intelligent about different things.

    I myself submitted to an IQ test about a year ago. A Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Test, to be precise. It touched on very superficial aspects of my intellect. Things at the periphery. Math skills. Spelling skills. Abstract reasoning. Memory. Pattern interpretation. General knowledge.

    My score was bizarre and extreme. The psychologist said that he had never seen a score like it. But to me, that didn’t matter too much. All through the test, I was very aware that my real abilities were not being tested at all. My interest in the work of Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft, for example. My research into the hidden creativity of Leonardo da Vinci. My ability to draw and to create inventions. My work on my first novel. The central preoccupations of my intellectual life were completely passed over.

    And no one even noticed.

    It is strange that many people insist that IQ is fixed and cannot be changed. As if you are only born with only so much intelligence, and no more. This is plainly absurd. You can increase your IQ (and intelligence in general) by simply learning more. I could answer far more questions on an intelligence test today than I could last year, for instance. I have put a great deal more in my brain since then.

    Even my general knowledge has improved. Today, I discovered a really goofy movie called “Idiocracy” that I had never heard of before. I discovered a horror story called “The Man Who Was Thursday,” by Catholic philosopher G.K. Chesterton. I bought a book on Renaissance painter Raphael. I bought a book on human evil by psychologist Scott M. Peck, called “People of the Lie.” Lots of stuff about evil parents in there.

    In the past year I did fundamental research on the work of philosopher W.V.O. Quine. I learned about the analytic/synthetic distinction in epistemology. I learned of the Indeterminacy of Translation. I learned of the possible psychological foundation of epistemology.

    I get smarter every single day. I am constantly learning something new. Much of this knowledge never appears on IQ tests at all. As far as they are concerned, it doesn’t exist.

    Which suits me fine. I have never yet come across a IQ test that measures one’s knowledge of philosophy. Or psychology. Or of Renaissance inventors or painters. Or imagination.

    We still have a long way to go.

As as the maxim goes, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be more accurate at this point. Having said that, permit me reveal to you just what exactly did do the job. 70. There are a lot of comments here. Some are hilarious. I’ve read a good chunk of the comments — not all, but don’t see anyone stating some important points about I.Q. tests.

    The initial goal of the first I.Q. tests was actually to weed out people who are unable to think in certain ways that were considered important for army-recruiting. It’s only later that the I.Q. test was adopted as a predictor for how well a child is likely to do in school.

    I.Q. says nothing about social skills, street-smarts, humor, drive, and so on, each of which are massive contributing factors to actual success. As a result, there are many people who have score high but don’t stand out, and many people that are just a little above average who stand out enormously.

    And of course, by definition, a score of 100 is average. In theory exactly 50% of the population will score below this, and the rest above. Any results posted from an online test will be skewed because the profile of people who find and take these tests is skewed. I see several reasons why almost all claims here are for scores over 100.

    Additionally, the properly administered IQ test is quite difficult to conduct and interpret. Especially in the cases of young highly gifted individuals because they can be so distracted, and they often hit the tests’ ceiling on selected skills, while sometimes scoring below average in some others.

    Testing adults is very difficult. Adults tend to have accumulated a great deal of knowledge, and to filter that out of the test is awkward. Tests are also culturally dependent, and era-dependent. Every real test must be normalized against a representative group. The result gives some reasonably useful predictor for potential, but not actual performance in school. Saying, “I’m 6 and have an IQ of 152” is no more impressive than “I’m 16 and have an IQ of 152” because theoretically the score should be normalized against age. In fact no-one can ‘have’ an IQ score. That’s silly. The best you can say is this, “I scored X on the test known as Y which has a standard deviation of Z and a ceiling score of P” Without all that information, you cannot compare one result with another.

    Almost all tests that I know of have fairly low ceilings. This means that the tests simply don’t work reliably for anyone capable of scoring above about 140 on a typical modern test. Of all the tests currently in use, the one most likely to give a reasonable idea above 140 is the Stanford-Binet. It’s an old test applicable for ages 2 to 23 as far as I know. The particular nature of this test allows examiners to get more reliable results for very high scores, but it’s not often used except by specialists because the commonly used Wechsler tests (and similar) cover almost all of the population.

    Another thing not mentioned is ‘regression towards the mean’. Thus if people take the test multiple times, on average they will tend to score closer to 100 if the first result was above or below, i.e. stupid seems to get smarter, and smart get dumber.

    Also practice with these kinds of puzzles can add a few points but not a lot.

    There is a strange anomaly. There are significantly more boys in the world who score around the 180 mark on tests like the S.B. It’s not known why this little bump appears in the normal distribution.

    To sum up – have fun with your internet-tests but treat them only as a toy.

71. I read an article about bobby fischers mental health and the author said that people with high IQs are born with a predisposition that makes them prone to mental illness. This is a great theory and supports a lot of situations that I have seen. I have a theory about why this happens but it is a bit long so i wont write it here. Bobby Fischer was a nasty man to say and do all the things that he did. Especially considering that he was a jew himself. But frustrations and anger got the best of him and he died insane.

    Depending on what “standard deviations” are then my score was “Above end 140” using the 16, “Above end 137” using the 15 and “Above 160” using the 24 (in a mere 24 minutes).

    I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a genius, I might call myself fairly clever at best.
    However, I’d swear I got them all right, so this (alleged) “test” is too short, too easy, and not a good indication of real IQ scores.

93. I scored a 136 decent, that is if these scores are in fact accurate (ball park measure at the least). Yet I find myself at a stage laden with inner turmoil; do IQ test actually display an accurate account of an individuals intelligence or are they nothing more than an attempt to determine who is desirable and who is not that is those with a higher potential productivity rate as opposed to those who will in the long run fail to meet the desirable quota and as such should be “marked and watched out for”.

    I personally believe that this particular test is fair, in terms that it mainly test mental agility (ability to take in and analyze patterns, inconsistency’s something on a broader scale yet equally as “challenging” mind you this depends on the individual and I suppose a time limit would further “enhance” its ability to calculate IQ)
    Here is a question to ponder over, 2 individuals one solves a given equation in 1min
    the other arrives at the same answer (which is correct) but it took him 2:30min and time after time individual “a” completes a given cognitive task faster than individual “b”. Who is smarter? they both arrive at the same answer instance after instance yet one is quicker but there is that existent fact that they will always arrive at the same answer. With a spin, which is most likely to be hired? But which is smarter? Does speed determine superiority? or is it nothing more than a mental construct revolving (to the point which is one of many) around the idea that “more is better” connect that to the aspiring individual to prove self worth. A state striven for in order to assert “superiority”, does it not connect and ultimately, derive down to the human mind and how it functions? One recurring ideal; the individual display dominance by means of abnormalities, abnormalities that others would strive for and envy.

    Well there it is, a quick vague obscure sketchy idea on as to what it is that I think of IQ test etc.

94. When I was in High School I was tested at 148. This test has me at 124. Not surprising since now days I am on Morphine and Vicodin, man does that stuff mess with your mind and your memory.
