Ok. Looks like this is turning into the week of movie trailers because there are a bunch that I can’t wait to see!
Next on the list after yesterday’s X-Men Origins is Underworld 3 – Rise of the Lycans. I’m not into horror movies, but I love action movies which is what saves this series for me. Underworld is essentially about an epic struggle between vampires and werewolves, but not a series in which they stalk people. It’s just an action genre that happens to star them.
The following summary does a better job than I could explaining what’s going on. And after you’re done, you can see the trailer. Enjoy!
“Rise of the Lycans” is the next movie in the “Underworld” series, but a prequel to the original version released in 2003. The third film in the $200 million “Underworld” franchise delves into the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, known as Death Dealers, and the barbaric Lycans (werewolves). A young Lycan, Lucian (Michael Sheen), emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Bill Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has persecuted them for hundreds of years. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, the beautiful vampire Sonja (Rhona Mitra), in his battle to free the Lycans from their brutal enslavement.
In the Underworld universe, Vampires and Lycans are not malevolent supernatural creatures, but rather the product of a virus; unlike vampires of other more ‘traditional’ works, Underworld Vampires are forbidden to drink human blood or in any way interfere with humans. Also, some Vampire relics and amulets featured in the movies are cross-shaped, and they show no aversion to Jesus’ name which is heard a few times throughout the narrative.
Sixteen centuries ago, a man named Alexander Corvinus was the only survivor of a plague that wiped out his village. Somehow, the man’s body was able to mutate the virus, mold it to his own benefit and become the first true immortal. Later, he had three sons, one of whom did not inherit his father’s immortality and was simply human. The other two were bitten, one by bat and one by wolf, creating the Vampire and Lycan lines. Corvinus’ third son also carried the Corvinus Strain, hidden away in his genetic code – an exact duplicate of the original virus, passed along to his human descendants through the centuries. This, according to Singe, is the key to creating a Hybrid.
Here is the official site.
It looks like YouTube has removed the video. However, the trailer can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSEoitVvQ-U
I just re-watched the original in anticipation of this movie…and it pretty much sucked. The second movie was really good…but then again I watched it in John P’s movie theater and that make even the worst movie damn good.
So, I guess I’ll have to travel to Texas (yeh haw) in about 4 months to guarantee a good experience with Rise of the Lycans.
When is this movie going to be released?
