Ok folks, the good people over at AMC Movie Theaters invited me to join in the festivities of the Best Picture Showcase at the Dallas AMC cinema at Northpark mall for an all day back to back screening of the 5 movies that have been nominated for Best Picture. And guess what? One of you gets to join Cali, Neal and I for free! (Cali already gave her free ticket away…)
That’s right, I’ve got one extra ticket, so if you are in Dallas, or going to be in Dallas, on this coming Saturday, Feb. 21, then all you need to do is drop a comment below and let me know that you’d like to join us. But here is the deal… since there is only ONE ticket… we’re going to run a little contest. Read on to find out what.
Now, don’t get me wrong… tickets to this all day event are only $30, or $25 if you join the free MovieWatcher club! So even if you don’t win the FREE ticket below, you should really come on out and join us for the movies. They are going to be awesome, and we’ll all have something cool to talk about on Monday at work.
Here is the official press release about the event:

Now, back to the whole point of getting the free ticket… First of all, it’s not just a free ticket. Since I’m half Greek and half Texan, I am also going to stuff my guest full of all the movie junk food they can possibly eat! Believe me, we’re going home sick! So, if you are interested in attending this movie and binge eating festival, you need to describe to me in delicious detail what your favorite movie snack is.
And don’t skimp on the details!
Finally, between Cali, Neal and I, we’ll be tweeting, filming, live blogging, video streaming and taking photos of the event like only the three of us can (trust me, it’s a LOT), so if you are shy, or in the witness protection program, you might want to let us know to keep you out of the spotlight – although you’re still welcome to attend!
It is the coolest site, keep so!
Some how I thought my vegetable medley would not cut the mustard with John. I would fly half way across the country just to see John chow down on a plate full of veggies.
Holy crap Chris! ;-) You win the reader of the year award! hehehehe
Well, we are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday and we’ll have a great time!
John P.
I realized after I put in the comment that you already had the time and place. :)
See you guys there.
That’s great John! I’m actually in OKC, so I have a 3-3.5 hour drive to get there. Let me know where and when I need to be, and I’ll meet up.
Hey, I just got word that your ticket will be held in your name there. I’m going to be there by 9:30 at the latest, so let’s plan on meeting at the theatre!
John
I’ll call Chili’s for you guys…congrats
I’m in, just email me what time. I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t seen any of these yet. Should be a blast!
Ok Troy and Chris… Since you guys were obviously the only ones in the Dallas area who are willing and able to go, I’m NOT going to choose between the two of you! Let’s ALL go!
Let me know if you can still make it out on Saturday and I’ll take care of the reservations so we all get the VIP treatment. ;-)
John
I have not seen all the movies but i have seen Slumdog and must say that its one of the best movies in latest times. Deserves an award for sure.
I’m with Troy on this one…movie theater food sucks, so you must bring the outside inside.
There is no better snack food than dipping something full of carbs into hot cheese with meat.
So here is the masterpiece: 15 to-go orders of Chili’s Skillet Queso poured into some sort of heat saving thermal pouch. Then the tricky part, getting the chips/pretzels in. I think that pulling the old Hunch back of Notre Dame is the best ploy. You should be able to squeeze one of those giant nacho chip bags in any good size hump. Pretzels fit in pockets or under one of those cowboy hats you guys have down there in Texas…Yee Haw.
I can’t make it down there this weekend, so we’ll have to save this for another day.
The best movie watching snack is the sneak in cheeseburger and coke. I prefer Burger King but any will do. Not only do you get a fresh meal that you cant possibly get from the theater, but you also get a cheap thrill from the thought that you are sticking it to the man! NO $3.50 FOR A DRINK! DOWN WITH $4.00 HOT DOGS!! ATTICA! ATTICA! ATTICA!
Sorry, I got carried away…
Sounds like a fun day to me John.
The basis of my ideal movie watching snack would have to be what I call Dr. Beer. Rather than actual beer, my Dr. Beer is a tasty combo of Barq’s Root Beet and Dr. Pepper. For this to be at it’s best, it needs to be ice cold.
To round out my snack, I also need some items from the solid unhealthy snack food group. These tasty treats have almost zero nutritious content, so you know that they are good.
The first item is a big bag of gummy worms. These are an ideal snack for movie watching as they are easy to dig out of the bag, don’t mess up your hands, and are a lot of fun to chew on. They also work really well for sharing, so you can use them as movie currency to trade for snacks that your buddies have.
So far, we have lots and lots of sugar. We need something to balance this out. That’s where the staple of movie watching snacking comes in: buttery popcorn. Sure, movie popcorn takes a food item that can be good for you and makes it a junk food, but that’s why it’s so great.
Now if I’m going to be at the movie theater all day, there are two additional food items that are great at movie theaters.
The king of these foods is the mighty hot dog. Good theaters have dogs that are thick and juicy. They just beg to coated and ketchup, mustard, and relish. Sorry Chicago, ketchup is a must. Not only is the dog tasty, the protein will help sustain my hard work of sitting on my butt and angling my head up slightly.
Some of you may think that my last item is nachos. While nachos are good, a big soft salty pretzel dominates even the best nachos. Add some gooey cheese to dip the pretzel in, and I’ve got yet another great salty treat to complement all the sugar.
