Have any of you Mac users noticed that if you have Time Machine enabled, it will absolutely drag your system down when it decides to perform a back up while you are working? It was driving me absolutely nuts until Cali pointed me to a little freeware application called Time Machine Editor 2.1.
Time Machine Editor allows you to specify a schedule for Time Machine to run so that it won’t get in your way constantly. For example, I was able to go in and tell mine to run daily at 3am. In theory I shouldn’t be interruped by this schedule, though you never know with me!
So, if you need to tame Time Machine give the editor a go. It solved my headaches!
I switched to Mac over a year ago. I certainly don’t miss having to format my hard drive and reload everything every six months or so. Not to mention all the aggravation of a misbehaving computer prior to formatting. Those who bad mouth Mac have never owned one.
Thx for this post, was getting so sick of TM draining my computer every hour! Great help!
thanks for sharing, i’m setting up my time machine now and had been looking hi and low for the setting. saddly, the older macs which use “backup” app to perform the same back up utility, has the options of setting the back up in many different ways. like i life backup – which only back up all the iphoto, itune, iDVD & etc. Also only backup certain important folders. Each setting allows individual back up setting, can be daily, hourly or weekly or even just by a specific time line.
This setting is so user friendly and it won’t use up all the hard disk space for running this back up thing.
Just find that the NEW TIME MACHINE is not that user friendly!
Hello,
I have a Mac Mini 1.8 Ghz with 1 GB ram and my machine doesn’t really slow down when Time Machine is taking a backup.
It could be a problem for people working with big files, like video edition, since Time Machine will have many gigabytes of stuff to backup every hour.
If you use some PC emulator, you may want to exclude the PC drive from your time machine backup, and have some other way to backup your PC files.

Thanks for sharing info on this sweet little program:) Running hourly TimeMachine backups on my boss’ old e-Mac (yes, an old EMac is running Leopard!) was causing all sorts of problems, and getting me in trouble. Hopefully this cures those ills:D Thanks.
Thanks so much: great app!
There are two kinds of people in the world…those that own a mac & those that aspire to owning one. Sadly I still belong to the latter, but one day….
Mac.
Over-hyped, overpriced, assembled by children’s hands
wasted on african shores…
So if that ‘one day’ comes: think again.
