Well folks, last night I reported that a lunar eclipse was going to occur a few hours ahead of time. Hopefully everyone in the North American area was able step outside and observe it for a while. I sat out there for hours and it was magnificent.
I took some photos of the event, though my camera is not really set up for this kind of work, so they aren’t great. But here is a little overview of what I saw. The individual pictures are later in this post.
A couple of you also asked me to take some stop motion photos of the eclipse, but the problem is that I had to zoom way in to get them, and the pesky moon kept moving! So since I don’t have a tracking telescope with a camera mount… you’re out of luck.
The Lunar Eclipse Video
However, I did set up my camera to take a little video, and then compressed it down so you could watch a little of what was going on.
The Lunar Eclipse Photos
I also took photos of the lunar eclipse for a couple of hours in like 1 minute intervals, and here are some photos of what that looked like.

If you took or saw any other good photos of the eclipse please let me know! I’d love to see and share them with everyone!
UPDATE: Here are some of the photos from a Flickr collection that everyone took. Some are really nice!!!
Great post, John — thanks for rounding up the information. Not sure how it looked in Frisco, but we had a perfect view of the eclipse; the clouds parted just in time for the climax, and it was dramatic (especially since the nearby coyotes were going ape at the same time).
Great work! I have never been able to see an eclipse in person, so I’ll try not to work when another one is expected to happen.
I saw a video on YouTube, but this gives me a more detailed look into it. It is a thing of beauty! Thank you sir for taking the time to do this!
Awesome work! We were overcast and could not see anything.
Very interesting
It was winter solstice today + full moon : )
