Taketomi Island’s Hoshinoya Resort (Video and Pics)

Bungalow
If you ever wondered how the fortunate people live in Japan, wonder no more! Just visit the Hoshinoya resort on the Island of Taketomi, and be treated like royalty on an Island dedicated to preserving the heritage of generations past.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much is a video worth? Well, you’re about to find out because while we were in Japan we stopped over at Taketomi Island and stayed at Hoshinoya where we shot this little overview video just featuring the bungalows we stayed in.

Keep in mind that there were other things to see and do around the resort as well as on the island, but the “rooms” were so spectacular we thought they deserved a video of their own.

Although I had the traditional bungalow with the tatami mat floors, Cali had the more Americanized room, and it was equally stunning. Just check out the amazing tub!

Which was just the centerpiece of a beautiful bathroom.

The living room featured a nice big futon like sofa that was easy to spread out on, or which could easily be used as another bed for sleeping. The room also had a table and chairs, sliding front windows which opened up the bungalow to the outside, wired ethernet and WiFi connectivity, and more.

Finally, the bedroom was equipped with two Japanese (or European modern) style beds that are low to the floor. They were actually quite comfortable.

It’s not a cheap place to stay, costing around $500 per night, but that’s actually a bargain for getting your own cabin, much less for the amazing service we experienced. So if you find yourself in Okinawa, definitely set aside time to spend a day or two on Taketomi. You’ll be glad you did.
