There have been many great musicians that have come out of Denton county that attended the University of North Texas, a college known for its strong music program, such as the lyrically whimsical “Bowling For Soup”. In the past, most of the musical talent from UNT have been known for playing rock and roll music, but now there is a singer on the rise named Melissa Ratley that specializes in her own special brand of country & western music.
Melissa was born in San Ramon, CA but her family relocated to Texas while Melissa was still very young. Melissa soon fell in love with the Lone Star State and is proud to call herself a native Texan.
Throughout her life, Melissa has had a strong love for music which greatly showed during the years that she worked as a DJ at a local station in Denton, TX. From there, Melissa moved on to becoming a singer / songwriter and greatly enjoys entertaining music loving crowds from all walks of life.
Today, Melissa loves connecting with people on a musical level whenever she performs at different locations across the United States. She always works hard to deliver a performance that attendees can cherish for the rest of their lives.
In the video below, “Somebody’s Word”, Melissa shares the tale of a backwoods woman who decides to follow her heart and the advice of those who love her to journey out in search of adventure.
