Creative Productivity Tips for Writers

Whether you’re a writer of fiction, a freelancer handling web content, or any other variety of muse whose job it is to weave words into something engaging and enjoyable, you almost certainly know the hurdles that threaten to thwart you at every turn. Even when you find yourself at your desk with no apparent distractions and a few hours to yourself, getting into the flow of writing and reaching your goals can still prove to be more difficult than you may imagine.

Make the most of your writing time with these five creative productivity tips for bloggers:

    1. Enjoy Your Genre

The first step to being an efficient writer is to have a true passion for the genre in which you write. Whether you’re an author of fiction or non-fiction works, like any job, staying motivated requires a love for what you put your hand to, and this is no more true than when it comes to writing.

If you find yourself writing material that doesn’t get you excited on some level, consider making a switch to a topic or niche that gets those creative juices flowing a little more freely.

    2. Set Realistic Goals

Writing is a fluid, creative process, meaning that different expectations should be applied to different writers. With that in mind, always be sure to set only realistic, achievable goals, saving yourself the daily agony of not meeting over-the-top word counts.

On the other hand, don’t go too easy on yourself, either. You know what you’re capable of in a given day, and you should always hold yourself to that capability!

Here’s a great article from “Start a Blog 123” on writing a really good article

    3. Eliminate Distractions

One of the biggest culprits when it comes to stealing away your time are the many distractions that life has to offer on a given day, especially in our age of technological wonders like social media and video games. In order to make the very most of your efforts, give yourself a quiet time and space to write, without the clatter of life resonant all around you.

This includes keeping only your current document on your screen whenever possible; while a browser tab may be required from time to time for research purposes, that tab should never play host to Facebook, your favorite news site, or the latest web-based video game.

    4. Hold Yourself Accountable

Being a writer means working solo and that requires that you act as your own boss – a daunting task for even the most self-disciplined of us.

While holding yourself accountable necessarily entails being your own overseer and therefore making rules that you won’t always be keen to follow, it also means rewarding yourself for a job well done when you’re able to stay focused and on track to efficient results.

    5. Use Helpful Tools

When it comes to being productive and making the most of your efforts, both in writing and sharing your material, you’re not alone – the web is full of useful tools that are just begging to be used! Whether you’re looking to better manage your time or to make the most out of the effort that you put forth, the internet plays host to many tools that promise to make your job easier.

One of the newest platforms that is aiming at solving writing productivity problem is MyBlogU that helps bloggers create better content by collaboration.
