Dear Eric,
On January 30, 2007 you mentioned that MyBlogLog was seeking a community manager. You described the role as follows:
“Based on customer emails, the community manager will develop a comprehensive faq, oversee a community-based help system (either a wiki or a bulletin board, you will help us decide) and advise the team on ways to improve MyBlogLog.
Lastly, the community manager be an active and vocal participant in the world inside and outside of MyBlogLog.com, spurring conversations, mediating disputes and just generally building kharma by making the world a better place.”
Well since I haven’t heard any progress with regards to this much needed role, here I am. But before we go on, make no mistake about it I don’t want the job. I just want the job to be done. Philosophically speaking, that makes me the best candidate. ( As Socrates reasoned, “And those who govern ought not to be lovers of the task? For, if they are, there will be rival lovers, and they will fight.” )
So, here is a brief bio about me on Citizendium, where I am vetted as an author (waiting on editor status). Here is a little more information on my About the Man page. And here is even my CV.
Now, as “acting” MBL community manager I’ve taken the first step of utilizing the parent companies other products, because MBL needs to “eat its own dog food”, by setting up the MyBlogLog Yahoo User Group.
I’ve also evangelized by communicating with you personally regarding issues I’ve identified, I give regular feedback on the MBL Blog posts, I have been presenting the MBL Widget on my Blog for months and even posted about the new User Group on my blog.
If you’ve already got someone better lined up I’ll just step down and hand over the position right now. But if not, how about we go ahead and formally launch the MBL User Group and start building an actual community around it rather than just a collection of individual blogs? You can then feel free to back-fill my position as soon as possible.
You should have my e-mail address and cell number from my response to the e-mail you sent me on 3/22, so now the ball is firmly in your court. :-)
To any other MBL members out there, how about showing your support for the concept of community by joining the MyBlogLog User Group and also by spreading this message? Oh, and please let me know if you’re willing to volunteer to be a group moderator. We’re gonna need them.
