Tutorial: How to Burn a VIDEO_TS Folder to DVD on a Mac
Let’s say that for some reason you decide to make a copy of a DVD. Like you want it for backup purposes or whatever. If you’ve got a Mac, it’s your lucky day. Here is how to do it:
- Use the Finder to copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your local hard drive.
- Download the DVDImager application and install it.
- Stick a blank DVD in your Mac.
- Launch DVDImager and then drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder onto the DVDImager icon
The rest should be simple. Enjoy your new disc copy!

You CONTROL + click or right-click on the disc on your desktop. Inside the disk are folders, one of which will be the VIDEO_TS folder
It would be easy if I understood how to do the first line….

I do not know how to use the finder to copy something and have no idea what the video_TS folder is and how to get it to my hard drive….
Could someone help me with this part?

In response to some of the snarky comments about the legality of making “backup discs,” there are times when a utility like this is really handy.
Example: We have this DVD that was created for us by a videographer several years ago (we have full rights to the content) and I was able to borrow the last copy from one of our company’s higher-ups.
I quickly copied the Video_TS folder off to my desktop and handed back the precious dvd while he waited. Now I’m burning that Video_TS back to DVD for a presentation we need it for and to keep in our archive so that more than one disc exist.

Well, it’s not ilegal everywhere. Where I live you are allowed to make backup of CDs and DVDs. If the manufacturer sell his products here, he automatically accept this. He can make it difficult, but it’s not ilegal.

Yes, but Mac DVD Burner is $29 and the DVDImager application (script) is free.
This is generally not illegal if you own the DVD and are making the backup for archival purposes only.

Well it’s illegal. But DVDs and Cds don’t last forever. And people won’t waste their money for a new copy of a movie or whatelse, they already have…
Haha, I like that: “Backup Purposes”. I guess people these days just like to back up all the ORIGINAL movies/games/software they bought, eh? :)
