If you said “The Beatles”, you’re wrong! But I don’t blame you because people mix them up quite often.
In reality, it was The Monkees who sang the original “I’m a Believer” back in 1966. Not to be confused with Smash Mouth’s remake in 2001 for the movie Shrek – which I incidentally think was a great remake of the song.
During the period from 1966-1970 The Monkees hit the Bilboard Top 100 at least 20 times with songs like Daydream Believer, Last Train to Clarksville, and I’m Not Your Steppin’ Stone.
So, here’s a little walk down memory lane for anyone else who was a fan of the Monkees.
he’s off his trolley in daydream believer. he can hardly stand up at the end.
this was before my time, but I’m open to any form of songs genre. the
songs reminds me of those that’s usually used for viet wars movie soundtracks, well to me it is. But i’ve heard some of these songs before, somewhere
thanks for sharing john
Any of you guys ever heard Neil Diamond sing I’m A Believer? (Yes, it’s his song for those who don’t know.) No rendition of his I’ve heard sounds…right.
I’m glad the Monkees put their stamp on it.
I would of said the monkeys, I remember that show they had on TV :)
Oh awesome – I found the theme song – well, part of it, anyway! :D

Awww…the Monkees! Loved them! Loved the show! I’ve spent the whole morning searching down more info. on them! What a fun trip down memory lane! And I wasn’t even born until 1970, but, we loved watching the reruns on TV! :D
When I was growing up the Monkees would come on every Saturday mourning and during the school summer holidays every weekday mourning. That was on RTE which is an Irish TV station. Most of the other kids in my area or in school never mentioned watching it themselves which kind of surprised me. I think I used to like Mickey Dolenz the best of all the members. David was too cute.
I watched the first two seasons and reruns throughout my childhood. Mike was the coolest in my book. This post prompted me to check Wikipedia to confirm how much of the music they did. On the first album, they did no music only vocals (due to time constraints) and learned their musical roles as their life as the Monkees blossomed. Thanks for bringing back those memories.
Thanks for the heads up Derek. I just got it replaced!
And yes, I agree. The pre-computer animation days were more realistic. They either had talent, or they didn’t. Today you can hide behind all the flashy stuff even if you are talentless.

Your first video doesn’t seem to exist on YouTube anymore. I like that these videos were made before they had the tools of special affects and computer assistance. It somehow gives it a much different feel, and it’s kind of nice.
