Southwest Airlines to Eliminate the Cattle Drive!

John P.

October 11, 2007 By John P.

Southwest Boarding School DiplomaYea! Southwest Airlines just sent me an e-mail today that very soon they will be restructuring their boarding process. This should help eliminate some of that …having to get to the gate to stand in line for an hour in a cattle stall before you board the plane… crap!

The deal is, now instead of just having a free for all, when you login on line and print your boarding pass you will be assigned a number along with your boarding group. Monitors will direct people to board according to the new more specific groupings, and you don’t have to stand in line to do it!

This change is long overdue, and it will make flying Southwest a more enjoyable experience. If you want to learn all about these changes, you too can go through the amusing little animated Southwest Boarding School and get your diploma at the end just like I did!

    Hi,

I used to be a huge fanatic of SW. I’ve flown them for over 20 years, enjoying the service, fun, and prices.

    No longer.

As a parent of a toddler I had flown SW since my Son was born, given the assurance that during the “cattle call” boarding process I would get to PreBoard with my family.

As of 10.02.07 this policy has changed and children no longer get to PreBoard.

If you don’t have kids, no problem. Yeah! Great going.

If you do have kids it is yet another stressor during a stressful time in any travel.

As a result, we will no longer fly SW.

    The LUV is lost.

When we flew SW we always got to board first since we had a small child. It’s been a few years since we flew SW and I think we’d have trouble getting that ten year old back into her car seat for boarding now. :D

Sounds like a better way to go.

This will be a welcome change for sure. I fly back and forth to California often and SW is the only carrier with decent rates. Times when traffic was high, the cattle drive got QUITE annoying!
