Synesthesia – A Study in Human Movement

John P.

February 7, 2008 By John P.

Woman AcrobatJuggling, acrobatics, dancing, swimming, hula hoops… this video has got it all! And according to the creator:

This is my Honours project edited down to a watchable length – it’s an examination of rhythm and human movement.

In a way it reminds me of the Swim Bodies video, except that this one substitutes fun for creepy.

Wow, that was really cool! Those yoga people make me so jealous – I love yoga, and I would love to be able to do stuff like that girl doing the reverse backbend thing. That girl spinning on the ribbon looks like she’s on top of, or in front of, a keyboard. Or am I just computer-obsessed? Ha!

Ehhh, it’s just good old fashin physics at work.

That stuff is good but I am still more impressed with parkour then break dancing. :D

It’s flexible. One of the most interesting things about Kamen’s research.

It’s funny watching people move in general. I remember I once read about Dean Kamen’s Segway back when it was still called “IT” (waaaay back in the day). One of the most interesting things about Kamen’s research in movement is that walking by itself is actually just a “controlled fall”. We are continually falling over, and re-supporting ourselves with our other foot.

Taking movement out of context like that and really examining the basics are kinda neat.. but that guy is insane =P

I especially like the bike riding sections (maybe because that is so different than what I could ever do. It was all pretty impressive, though! I definitely couldn’t do hardly any of that.
