Incredible Timelapse Volcanic Lava Flow Video

John P.

March 21, 2008 By John P.

Liquid Hot MagmaWhen I went to Hawaii one of the coolest things I did was check out the live volcano. To this day it was one of the most awesome sights I’ve ever witnessed. Seeing a mountainside with liquid hot magma pouring out of it was enough to make Dr. Evil proud.

Well, since none of us has all night to watch lava make it’s way down a mountain, someone was kind enough to film a lava flow throughout the night and then speed it up for us. So here is a time lapse video taken on the Big Island of Hawaii for your viewing pleasure.

By the way, I do have a pretty large collection of Time Lapse photography, so feel free to check out some more.

I always like the natures shows where people are walking around on the lava fields. I keep thinking they will step through some thin crust into the lava. I guess I walked around on too much ice covered snow in my arctic youth.

That was very cool to watch – I have always wanted to see volcanoes in Hawaii – active and dormant!

Guess what I am from hawaii :) well i live on both places Iowa and hawaii (Maui). Here in Maui we don’t have any active volcanoes I guess thats why we only have romantic people around where Oahu , Honolulu etc places have all sort of tourists :)

Let me know if you are planning to come to maui some day :) i am blogger my self and like to spend time with other bloggers.

In an old Geology course, we got to see a lot of videos like this and it was always so amazing that you’re literally watching ROCK act like a liquid in its molten state.
