Kimbo Slice Gets Knocked Out by Seth Petruzelli!

John P.

October 11, 2008 By John P.

Ok. Regular readers know that I LOVE MMA fights. And when Jimbeau told me that Kimbo got “knocked-the-f” out in 18 seconds I couldn’t believe it! In fact, I think my exact response was, “Show me.”

Well, Jimbeau proceeded to produce the following video, which I must have watched 5 times in disbelief.

There are a lot of things that are impressive here, but to me the most interesting thing is that Petruzelli was a major, major underdog. And he is also much smaller than Kimbo:

Kimbo Slice
234.5 pounds
6′ 2″
78″
Fighter
Weight
Height
Reach
Seth Petruzelli
205.5 pounds
6′ 0″
74″

Now, since the fight, it’s been the talk of the entire MMA community. And a lot of the hype is coming from some of the comments that Petruzelli made on a radio station interview when he said that he was paid extra to stand and trade punches with Kimbo.

The promoters kinda hinted to me and they gave me the money to stand and throw with him, they didn’t want me to take him down. Let’s just put it that way. It was worth my while to try and stand up punch him.

Here is Petruzelli’s comment:

A few hours later, in a follow-up interview with MMA website FiveOuncesofPain.com he retracted his previous statement:

What was meant to be said was that I wanted to keep the fight standing for myself because I knew that was what the crowd, the promoters, and everyone wanted to see because that’s more exciting than just taking someone to the ground.

That was my thing only. I wanted to keep it exciting so I decided to keep it standing. It had nothing to do with anybody else. That was all me.

Yeah. Uh huh. Let’s take a listen to the entire interview, shall we?

For those of you who didn’t know who Kimbo was, he’s famous on the Internet for street-fighting. Here are a couple of things to give you the general idea.

WARNING: THESE ARE BRUTAL! Kids, women and people with weak constitutions should NOT watch them.

Here is a guy who was paid $100 to let Kimbo tackle him in full football gear:

And here is a brutal street fight with Kimbo that pretty much shows why he’s feared by many:

I just read today that the company that Kimbo is contracted to (EliteXC) has folded. I don’t know what this means for Kimbo but my guess would be that he goes back to street fighting. The only two legit MMA organizations are the UFC and Affliction. Affliction generally only puts on superfights and no one will pay to watch Kimbo get mauled by Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski or Fedor. He could end up in the UFC but he would have to start at the bottom and in all honestly he probably wouldn’t be very successful even at the lowest levels. Luckily for Kimbo he is a “god” among street fighters and now that he has been beaten, I would imagine guys will be lining up to fight him. Personally I think he is a caricature of a joke.

Oh man…I remember watching a few of his vids on youtube years ago – all he fought was bums and low-lifes. There was no way he was going to cut it in the octagon.

You wouldnt believe how long iv been waiting to see that. Iv been watching Kimbo beat the crap of of wannabes on youtube for years.

There was only one street fight i seen him lose on the tube. It was this epic brawl with this big old x cop. I say epic coz they where both so unfit that after 5 minutes they pretty much laid down and died.

The whole thing was weird.. it happened before you could even blink. First Shamrock got injured doing a light warm up that day. Then Kimbo got destroyed within 14 seconds of the first round by a karate kid. If there was more money and less corruption then you would see a lot better fighters up there.

Kimbo Slice is not taken seriously in the MMA Community. As I always suspected, any well-trained MMA fighter would make quick work of Kimbo. Image if he had fought a genuine MMA superstar.

Is Kimbo Slice really taken seriously in the MMA community or a product of internet hype?

This footage sure did cause a ruckus, as many individuals felt that Kimbo Slice had no chance to be attacked harshly. The results of matches surprise the viewers once in a while.
