Well folks, yesterday I committed a cardinal sin. I wrecked my new AMG that I just told you about not long ago.
Those of you who follow me on Twitter got the news about an hour and a half after the wreck… just after the tow truck took my car back to the dealership from whence it came. And a very special thanks to all of you who called or responded back to my Tweet. I very much appreciate your concern for my safety (Lisa, Giovanni, Ted, Mike, Hallie, Paul H., Mike B., Paul M., I hope I didn’t miss anyone?).
This update is for the rest of you guys like my parents who read this every day and are going to call me after this and ask me why they had to learn about my accident through my blog! Well, the answer is… it’s just easier to tell everyone all at once, and no one was hurt – just my baby. So it wasn’t an emergency or anything. You’d have gotten a call if so.
Everyone wanted to know what happened, and the short story (as I understand it) is that we were on the highway and someone cut in front of a truck a couple of cars up from me. That truck slammed on the brakes and came to an immediate screeching halt. The lady in a BMW in front of me slammed on her brakes. I then slammed on mine.
This wasn’t a normal situation where people are already braking and then just brake harder. It was, highway speed to 100% brakes. In traffic. The entire event took about 2 seconds I guess.
So, here are the photos of my car. It was by far the worst damage of the three vehicles involved. The Mercedes Benz repair shop was unable to figure the odds on whether it was totaled or not. Which is not a good sign. Usually they can just say, “oh yea, we can fix that”. So we’ll see what the insurance says. Even if they are able to repair it, the guy told me it would take “at least 60 days”.
Anyway, I guess it’s back to driving the NSX for now. Glad I hadn’t sold it yet!
hey john keep well…
That’s really harsh and bad,
at least your all good, next time be care full!!
I wonder what I’d do if I smashed up my baby! (Probably make a Tweet first thing, hehe.)
Hmmm, sometimes things happen for a reason! Glad that you’re OK, it is just crazy how quickly and accident can actually happen. At least you’ve still got your NSX, which is a very nice car in its own right. Maybe look at adding some forced induction or the like, that could be fun.
That stinks john, I am glad you are okay, but it certainly does suck that you had to go threw with that :(
Wow, incredible!
John, keep well!!!
OUCH! I do hope you will be checked out. Whiplash ain’t a thing to mess around with.
Man, this has not been a good car month for you. Hope it improves!
What a shame. A friend of mine just bought the hardtop version of this car and I loved the drive I had in it. Hope they can fix it, if it’s not too bent!
Dang, that’s a nice ride you got there John! I’ve got to give you my nod of approval for that type of taste!
Sorry about the accident, I can only imagine how I would feel if something like that happened to me…
Ha! I didn’t catch that one! LOL
Highway speed???? OMG, John!!! Yeowtch! Now I feel bad for just worrying about your broken heart!! Hope you don’t have any lingering physical issues from it. And I have to say, I’m glad you’re driving the NSX – I felt some odd affection for that car. It just seems so special. You had to drive across the country to get it and it’s so rare. I still think you should keep him. ;)
Oh John!!! Glad to hear you are not seriously hurt but that is a sweet hunk of metal! I’m partial to the old NSX too, can’t beat the way it slings it’s ass out when you put the foot down! :)
HAHAHAHAHA!
I think you and I are the ONLY two people who know what you are talking about… and yes, that is what I was talking about too! ;-)

Thats really harsh
at least your all good
Hey, ya know…
My cousin Joey gots a father that fixes TVs and stuff and he’s got this great set of tools…
I’m pretty sure he could fix dat.
:)
Yeah, it was way to mangled to tell. But it was a Mercedes Benz AMG CLK55 Convertible. Just a fantastic ride!

We’ll see Mark. If they are able to repair it, I’ll definitely keep it. I love the car. But if it turns out to be totaled I’ll probably just stick with my NSX for now. I bought the AMG on a complete impulse, so I certainly don’t need to replace it.

Oh John, I saw this on twitpic and I couldn’t make out which car it is.
Ohhhh, what a bummer! Glad no one was hurt, though. Gonna get another?
